I have no idea whether draft eligible guys would be instant free agents or just have to wait another year, but either way, it could have huge implications for LSU baseball.

Edit: I also think it goes without saying that this is insanely unlikely and probably doesn’t happen, but the fact that it’s even being considered is crazy to me.

More guys staying? If only that benefit was exclusive to LSU.

Right. Could potentially lead to some top HS guys coming to school, but I’d imagine a lot of them would go the JUCO route.

And this just in, Santa and the Easter Bunny have signed with Amazon to do their delivery services for the next decade.

I’m sure the Twins, the Mariners, and the Rays would sign off on having the Yankees, Dodgers, and Red Sox suck up all of the high prospects without having a draft.

Not exclusive to LSU, no, but how many teams have as much talent as LSU does, who could get some guys back that would have otherwise left? Not many.

The real question is what the OP eluded to about whether all would-be draft eligible players would be allowed to become free agents. If so, then the top prospects would still leave, because they'd have huge bidding wars for their services that they obviously wouldn't have gotten in the draft. Which leads me to believe that they probably WON'T be allowed to enter free agency, if the draft is skipped.

Don't think the MLB would like that precedent.

These are unprecedented times, so who knows ,but they need to have a draft. Imagine if all the top HS prospects went to their teams. They would rob some guys out of playing time that are in college for 3 years. Toups for example, he could very well be a starter next year but if Crews and Frost come to campus he might be sitting the bench. What then? Will these Freshmen next year be draft eligible for next years draft?

They can conduct a draft without a large gathering. I know they don't have us much scouting as they would like but everyone is in the same boat. They just need to do the draft and be done with it.

I can see where the MLB would have a shortened draft...not entirely sure they would completely cancel a year with an influx of new players.

As hard as we get hit by the draft every single year, this would be great for us. We always lose extremely talented ballplayers out of high school to the draft

If you think we get hit hard by the draft every single year you have unrealistic expectations.

We lose players to the draft every year, but we rarely get "hit hard."

It sucks to see people having to make decisions on stuff that happens in 2-3 months. Pretty soon we will legitimately be discussing whether the CFB season starts on time, same for NFL. Maybe no NBA Finals or Stanley Cup at all. Why even start the 20-21 season?

This is a legitimate concern but if this thing rocks on that long then we won’t be worried about football anymore.

There are plenty of teams with as much, or more, talent than LSU.

Ummm, are you under the impression that juniors just leave for the MLB draft at LSU? Almost every team out there, that's worth a damn, could get some guys back that would have otherwise left.

What IF the NFL cancels the draft and allows players to opt back to college if still eligible. Oh my!

Imagine if we had Christian Cairo at SS right now (if COVID-19 never happened). That would have done wonders to fix some of the holes we still had out there. Or imagine 2013-2015 without Bregman. We could get a Bregman type of guy now and like 2 other really good baseball players. We were extremely lucky to have gotten Bregman honestly. I don’t understand how a broken finger hurt that guys draft stock so badly in 2012.

still hoping Drew Romo class of 2020 makes it to LSU. He is a possible 1st round pick out of HS
