Wow!

Hope that leaves enough to keep the great receivers, o-line, and backs they now have. And the O-line still needs improving.

Yep. Sell the City of Cincinnati, Ohio and throw the checkbook at Joe Burreaux.

Having said that........

We’ll see how bad he wants to win titles. Does he rape the salary cap and supporting cast or does he settle for for plenty enough and allow a dynasty to be built

How to keep most of the top players for the Bengals...

Joe Burrow is a real threat to be a $500M Man! or a $55-60M per year dude

Joe Burrow- However, market rate and market term is $50M x 6 years = $300M with $200M guaranteed

or

Go straight match with Mahomes $45M x 10 years = $450M with $300M guaranteed (Wow)

Offer him less money per year's added ($2M less to each 1 year added) = $42M x 10 years = $420M with $250M guaranteed, and offer him either a cash retirement directly from the owner at $8M per year x 10 years = $80M, so he would be a $500M Man!

Therefore, from $42M per year to max $60M he could actually get, that saves $18M per year and pays Chase $18M + $7M = $25M minimum but times a 7 year deal, he would take $25M as that would give him a $175M contract.

D. Hopkins makes $27M per year x 2 years and other top WR like T. Hill has a 4 year deal that pays $30M per year. Adams makes a bit less per year but more years. Therefore, $25M per year is not bad for a long term deal, more than double of the current top paid WR.

That locks in Burrow and Chase!

Furthermore, the NFL Salary Cap is going northwards of $220M in 2023, which is an increase of $20M more than 2022

And on top of that, the Bengals have over $48M in cap space, which is another $8-10M per year on 4-5 great players to keep like Hurst, Hendrickson, Hubbard (The 3 H's)

One move I would make is to trade Higgins for a #1 draft pick plus a current WR and draft a 2-3 round WR = 2 for 1

First round pick get a OT, second round a guard and 3rd round a WR.

Keep the defense in tact with that extra salary cap room.

Team is intact for a long 5-10 year run

If that $80M retirement is not legal from the owner, then just give Burrow a minority stake in the Bengals, but no operational input (in the public eye) until he retires!

I could see him taking less to keep at least Chase and possibly the others. He wants to win and win for a long time.

Brady could afford it b/c his wife was worth $500,000,000 and makes $35,000,000 per year. Brady also made over $235,000,000 in his 20 seasons with New England. Completely different scenario from Joe who is on his rookie contract of 4 yrs / $36,000,000

Tampa Bay worked out Brady's annual contract to recv $1M per year in 2021 and 2022. His signing bonus was $35M and $28M respectively. Brady played 3 yrs in TB and earned right at $100,000,000. Brady got paid his $$ but it was all front loaded as a signing bonus. FYI - Joe's 2022 salary is $900,000 , 66th highest paid QB "per year salary". Joe got paid a $24M signing bonus in 2020 for his 4 yr contract.

2. Russell Wilson (Broncos): $49 million (5-year, $245 million contract)
3. Kyler Murray (Cardinals): $46.1 million (5-year, $230.5 million contract)
4. Deshaun Watson (Browns): $46 million (5-year $230 million contract)
5. Patrick Mahomes (Chiefs): $45 million (10-year $450 million contract)
6. Josh Allen (Bills): $43 million (6-year $258 million contract)
7. Derek Carr (Raiders): $40.47 million (3-year, $121.4 million contract)
T-8. Dak Prescott (Cowboys): $40 million (4-year, $160 million contract)
T-8. Matt Stafford (Rams): $40 million (4-year $160 million contract)
T-10. Kirk Cousins (Vikings): $35 million (1-year $35 million contract)

If you notice, six of those top 10 didn't make the playoffs, including all of the top 4 (their teams are dumpster-fires).

I'm not saying Burrow shouldn't get paid--he should.

I'm saying I hope he's the Brady-type and willing to not get into this competition so that he can have an actual team around him.

If it were me, I'd like 30 million a year and then 2.5% equity stake in the team.

Fair points BUT Joe will make MUCH more outside of football if he’s a SB Champ. Endorsements go away if you never win.

Agreed. They can get some quality draft stock for him.

I certainly hope that Joe signs for less. A contract like Murray’s will doom the team. The world hasn’t seen Joe Burrow without great weapons to throw to. How good would he be without Chase? Mahomes has lost great receivers and it has hurt him.

Didn't the league put in rules to protect themselves so that active players can't have equity ownership in the team?

Sure, there would be ways around it like options, incentives, etc., but at a certain point the best QB in the league is going to want to be paid like he is.

Tom Brady and Drew Brees made long careers out of making "nobodies" look elite at receiver.

I'd rather Burrow have guys like Chase to throw to, but I have to think he'd be just fine with lesser receivers

Joe seems to live a fairly low key and modest lifestyle.
I can definitely see him taking less to keep other great players
on the team so he can accomplish his #1 goal of winning
championships

At the same time though you don't necessarily have to. Brady showed that he can elevate the players around him. He rarely had top 5 receivers in those super bowl wins. Mahomes is still raking in wins without Tyreek. You need coach/QB combo, o-line, and edge.
