We will be longing for the novelty of the Tuba Days in a couple years.

He was tall, that’s about it. I do remember seeing him come down Victory Hill with the band before football games before playing basketball.

I live in Virginia Beach VA. About 2-3 years ago, I was at a chik fila. There was this unbelievably tall white dude next to me in line.

We talked for a bit, and I asked the question I know everybody and their grandma asks him: "I know you played ball somewhere, right?" He replied: "LSU". I almost screamed "Tuba!!".

He was shocked that anyone would know him, especially up here in VA. He was working for a lawn service, and they were at lunch. I haven't seen him since, and there's no way in hell you can miss him.

Trent abhored the recruiting cesspool and all that entails and thus was not in on too many talented players. The one good year his first season was won with Brady's players.

He was added to the team during Trent Johnson's last season because Trent wasn't big on recruiting. The next season Jones was left with essentially cobbling together whatever roster he could find. He actually did a decent job and got some production out of Del Piero. That LSU team was at least competitive (most nights) and actually finished with 19 wins and a .500 record in a very weak SEC. Hell, it was probably Jones's best coaching job in his 5 seasons at LSU.

He was still three times better than Darcy Malone. Del Piero at least had some sort of semblance of skill.

Makes you wonder how Trent got the job, yet wasn't big on recruiting.

I saw him play in Athens and was puzzled by what I was looking at.

The Lopez twins did for him what Brett Favre did for Curley Hallman.

He actually had soft hands and moved well for an out of shape 7 footer. If he had hardcore hit weight room and had great conditioning year before he played he would have been really solid. Right place at right time. Rebounded well without having to jump much. Consistently made shots around the rim. Caught the ball and didn’t turn it over much. I mean considering, he was really impressive.

That's not completely true. Johnson turned the Nevada program from a perpetual loser to a Sweet 16 team. That got him the Stanford job which, at the time was coming off one of the best seasons in school history. He did ok, not great, but he had a history of success predating the Lopez twins.

Unlike Curley at LSU, Johnson immediately turned the LSU program around into an SEC champion. This, coming off a dismal season where LSU started ranked in the top 10 and finished with a losing record. Unfortunately, Johnson had no interested in getting into the AAU muck when it came to recruiting top players. You know, the type of muck some on here don't think don't is prevalent given their pearl clutching in response to the Wade allegations. That did him in.

Decent coach when he had some talent. Just not a guy who was willing to do what it took to get that talent.
