Bama made some terrible coaching hires after Stallings. They wanted a "bama guy" and it cost them.

I think miles is a good recruiter not a great one. A great recruiter would bring in elite QBs. It's hard to recruit them though when they see the success your offense has had throwing the ball. A great recruiter would sell them on LSU making them overlook how bad the passing game is. Agree or disagree?
Disagree with your premise. Elite QBs avoid the SEC like the plague because of the defenses here. As a rule, if they aren't home grown they aren't coming here. Why would they when they could go to high profile schools in weak conferences like USC or Stanford and not have to worry about ending up on a stretcher every game?
If I were a top QB I would want nothing to do with the SEC. I think the ones that do are quite frankly a little crazy. AJ McCarron is the best QB Saban has had and he's from Bama. If Louisiana develops any blue chip QBs we'd have a great chance of bringing one of them in.

FSU doesn't, why did they fall off? Alabama did not before Saban got there. Texas and OU didn't before Brown and Stoops.
Yeah, being an elite powerhouse helps with recruiting. Its why we can get guys like Pocic and Retting from Il and Ca for 2013, but credit for all that winning goes to Miles.

Gundy has done a great job, but T Boone has given them a lot of money to build up the program in recent years.

You are really saying that Dinardo is a better recruiter than miles? Come on. It's obvious that you have blind hatred towards miles but your statement is totally asinine.
Dinardo recruited way over his head. Les doesn't. Where are the great QBs if he is such a great recruiter?
I like miles. I just hate the way some fans suck him off so much. He gets paid 4 million a year. He should be grateful to have such a great job.

quote:Gosh, I don't know.. Going by your theory, he must not be, cause Les set the foundation and make OK State. Gundy is using Les's mojo, toothpaste, etc. What good players Gundy happens to get is going there because of what Les did 8 years ago, right?(sarcasm in case you didnt know)

You remind me alot of my wife that I love dearly, but a severe case of tunnel vision. You pick out a single leaf on a tree and can't see anything else. Your statement of Dinardo being a better recruiter was comedy gold..
Have a good one..

It's funny you say that because I was asking the question for all the people who say miles is a better coach than saban. Funny thing is most of them will never answer because even they realize they can't bc it would defeat their arguement.

I'd get tired after about 50, but I bet that I could name a bunch of schools that would love to have LSU's record after hiring such a terrible coach and terrible recruiter.... You're right,,, we should have kept Dinardo... i'm usually a once a day bowel movement sort of guy around 6 am,, but, you're giving me another one..

LSU Tigers now > LSU Tigers under Saban

Georgia always gets good QBs. Stafford was from Texas.
Bama has a great QB recruit for next year don't they?

You really are stupid. I have NEVER said Miles was a bad hire/ coach or I want another coach. Keep Dinardo?
Posted on 11/4/12 at 3:23 pm to Topwater Trout
On phone in bathroom , I didn't play for either of those coaches, don't know which one gets most out of what he' s got. So I can't say. I have my opinion though.
Btw, both make mistakes. I know some don't think so, Sabans just a human. Gasp!

I'm usually one of the first to give Gerry D credit, but come on.
He did a bad job recruiting QB's from 2006-2010. Looks like its been corrected, we'll see.

Htown, forget it. You're arguing with my wife, surely.
we're all stupid and retarded.

great OP
Dukke - opinion not fact - miles would have a great run at tuscaloosa
saban is very good but he has had some bad beats at bama too - Louisiana - Monroe, the meltdown against cam newton

I think you are missing the point. Dinardo did recruit very well under the circumstances. He was recruiting kids to a program that had just gone through some terrible years. Miami, FSU, Michigan, Colorado, Nebraska etc were coming into La and getting our best players. He did stem the bleeding. Saban came in and really locked down the state.
LSU now has top notch facilities and is a winning program...makes recruiting easier.
If you were a car salesman would you rather sell BMWs or Hyundai?

You are going out of your way to not give Les Miles credit. There are lots of place that have top notch facilities and don't recruit the talent that Les Miles does. Of course you have better success recruiting at bigger programs. Saban could not have done what he's done at LSU and Alabama at Mich State.

That's not a good analogy. I'd rather sell Hyundai's, you'd sell a lot more of them.

I agree with the OP here. I'll probably get the ban hammer for saying this but NO ONE outside of Louisiana considered LSU an elite program when Saban left. Most of the country didn't even consider us 2003 National Champs! You are kidding yourself if you think people saw the program then the way they do now. I'm not taking anything away from Coach Saban. I love to hate him now because he coached the Gumps but I remember what LSU football was like before he got here and I appreciate what he did for the program. All I'm saying is that, when you compare their records at LSU, no one can honestly say that all Miles has done is "sustain." He's done some building of his own. Maybe he doesn't measure up to the coach that Saban is now (maybe) but please tell me who does? Who comes closer? Anyone who might make that list has the privilege of coaching in another conference instead of the same division in the same conference as Saban. No one else in the country gives that ole boy hell year in and year out.

Good point Pimp.
Maybe you should bump this thread when The Sabinista faction goes full throttle retard.
