The vast majority of the scoreboard would have fired Saban in 2007 based on the reactions last night

The game sucked.

Lane punting on 4th and 1 is diametrically opposed to everything that led us all to be so excited when he came here. That sucked.

The referees absolutely sucked and if any one of close to a dozen calls go our way the game is ours and if we get a couple the game isn’t close. That sucks.

Blake Baker is not going to win anything for this team. That sucks, but that’s also what Lane is here for.

That said, the defense held Kentucky to three points in the second half before the kick to force overtime. They came up with huge stops to force three FGs with the game on the line in the 4th and imo came up with their best play of the game on the goal line before halftime only to have the refs give them a TD anyway.

He then completely shite the bed in OT, but overall his defense played more than well enough to get out of that game with a win.

How many holding calls did OM or UK have go against them in those games btw?

The backup bros really hate Leavitt, and yet the third worst call of the night was when Landon Clark was brought in for a QB run for no gain from the 10 yard line when Sam had just marched us 65 yards down the field. Luckily Sam threw a TD the next play, but anyone that thinks Sam is the problem, even with his very frustrating mistakes (thanks defense for giving up zero after the fumble at our own 13 ), is one of the goons that would have fired Saban after losing to ULM or Auburn in 07.

The offensive line is really just not very good and is constantly being pushed into Sam’s face even when only facing a three or four man rush. This has been pretty clear most of the season and I am dreading facing teams like Alabama or Texas. I think the talent is clearly lacking, but I also don’t believe our scheming is very good and communication/recognizing assignments is bad. I fear Wolford is one of those Bama guys that gets credit for being a good coach because he just had way more talent on his three deep than anyone they ever line up against.

The second worst call of the night was the second down call on our last drive of regulation. I understand wanting to run clock or force them to use their TOs, but why not call the third down pass on second down if you’re going to put the ball in the air on the drive anyway? We played very conservatively on many early downs only to leave it up to Sam to make long down and distance throws on 3rd throughout the night. To his credit, he made many of them, but I just don’t like telegraphing when those plays are coming, especially given the OL issues.

The worst call of the night, the 4th and 1, is purely a feel type of play and honestly the reason Kiffin is here. Even as good as the defense had played in the second half, in a wild road environment with the type of referee input that game had shown to that point, you take the opportunity to end it. Period.

No one should have thought our defense was going to stop them for four straight downs which is what the D would be facing, and I was very skeptical that kicker would miss if given another opportunity, which it was clear he was going to get.

Everyone saying that OM Lane wiiid have gone for it is right, but there were also many threads after he was hired where people were lamenting 4th down Lane and declaring he doesn’t need that gimmicky stuff at LSU and he needed to leave that in Oxford. But going for it there wouldn’t have been gimmicky. It was the right call on the road to get a yard and put the game away.

This is one of those moments where Lane is struggling to find the balance between what he was in Oxford and who he is going to be at LSU. It sucks that he fumbled that first chance to define what he is going to be about here, but the hysteria about him being the wrong hire is just so childish that it’s hard to believe this board is filled by functional adults

And I said repeatedly on the rant this week after watching bits of the SC game that Stein is a really good hire.

After watching a full game (and seeing his SEC media day declaration ) he is also a complete chode. He gives off that same Sumrall fake tough guy vibe that is so corny. Just own that you’re a tiny savant that is smarter than most other coaches, don’t try to be a badass lol.

That nerd is likely going to believe the hype that will be coming his way and will make the jump to a job he isn’t ready for and flame out when he faces any type of real expectations.

As we just saw it’s one thing for a coach to go balls to the wall at a place where everyone knows you will never win anything of real significance, that’s all fun and games.

But when fans and media and admin expect wins every single week the pressure is just different.

Saban established his culture after dropping the ball repeatedly under that pressure in 07, and it’s going to be fun watching Kiffin continue to pull this program back up to the standard he knows it is capable of after so many years of floundering in mediocrity.

TLDR - Score Board is a nightmare and Chicken should just lock the whole site during and after games

Saban had more money to buy players than most teams today. UGA the same way the last 15 years.
It is about paying before it was legal.
Saban bought Eddie Lacy and others

Saban wasn’t the coach in 2007. Miles was. Did you mean 2001? Saban’s first year?

Yep! I posted the same in another thread.

One more loss and I’m sending Leavitt to the bench to see what you have in the two young QBs. Leavitt just ain’t it and he’s sure as shite not worth what he’s being paid, so he can go.

The fricking idiot can’t even have a clean stat sheet against mcneese, he can’t keep turning the ball over on the road in this conference.

Kiffen ain’t Saban, never will be.

Saban at least had a Natty to his name that 07 year, in an era with no NIL.

We just lost to another first year head coach at a basketball school.

Coaching sucked last night. And lanes bullshite to delay the game is getting old and bush league

This isn’t 2007 anymore. You don’t need a 3-4 year runway to get your own recruits, build culture, develop them.

Kiffin brought his own guys in with the transfer portal and with as much money as we spent on the roster we should not be losing to Kentucky year one. Period.

We could have kept Brian Kelly and got the same results.

This I completely agree with.

Unfortunately I don’t think that’s going anywhere. It’s that chess match bullshite he seems to love.

I do think it isn’t costing us much and won’t hold us back, but yeah as a fan I don’t like seeing my team play that way

I don’t think some of you actually understand why the roster was so costly.

You also all need to take a look at the conference differently now. There is parity now and it’s not easy to win anywhere on the road at night save Vandy and Arkansas. I agree we should have beat UK but it’s not as egregious as you’re making it

Like you essentially had to hit your transfers at a 80-85% rate for this team to truly be elite

The good news is most of the guys you high end money to are performing. Even Leavitt is not a complete bust, he’s just not a winning player.

WR I think you largely got wrong, a bunch of role players trying to Frankenstein a WR1 out of. You need better talent there. Not sure what’s going on with Watkins but he suddenly can’t catch and may need to see the bench because he’s hurting you.

One of the interesting parts of it was when Greg McIlroy said if there was the transfer portal back then he thought a lot of Bama’s players would have transferred after the first year. Really puts it into perspective.

On the 4th and 1…that drive as a whole i think was a direct result of losing faith in Leavitt to not go full retard again after nearly fumbling the game away

RZ playcalling has to get better though.

Agree with the comments but all of us never saw us 12-0; like many it's 10-2; 9-3 and some of you 8-4; yes last night perhaps blame Sam but we still scored 27 not enough....you put faith in your D and well it did not work in regulation...but Kiffin said in OT they will score you better have your best 2pt defense and we ll that did not happen and for whatever reason you don't have a spy on QB...I expect Kiffin to just run up the score the next 6 games if possible....
