The regionals used to be on Memorial Day weekend so exactly one week earlier that right now. And guess what it rained here last weekend too.

Climate change? The June rain has been a fact since to 60's when I played little league. We live in a subtropical climate, it's the way it has always been. Here is the data...

LINK

The TV schedule is not really a factor, only a few of the games are on cable, the majority are streamed. What good does it do to have it on the schedule if it's a washout?

Now several regionals are fighting rain delays.

And? Which regionals will not be played? All they have to do is start some Supers a day later on Saturday and everyone will still get the appropriate amount of rest. Oh wait, they already do that.

I for one love the fact that we have tournament play Friday through Monday and the occasional Tuesday game. More baseball to watch..unless the Tigers don't make it out of regionals, then I give up on college baseball all together and don't care when they play. Ha

I remember the outfield was so wet you could see water splashing up around their knees one year. Just brutal!

Before the NCAA pushed the baseball season back so the northern teams could compete, the regionals used to be held 3 weeks earlier.

This can't be true. I remember the NCAA pushing the start of the season back, but not the end of the season. There used to be more weekends, and less mid-week games played. It used to be rare to play 2 mid-week games per week. Now that is the usual schedule.

yep! Amazing we haven't learned to control Mother Nature yet

As for the season being longer it's only a week off but the NCAA went from 6 teams to supers...adding another week

I remember one year in the early-mid 90's that the regional was delayed almost two days. I think they finally finished with shortened games.

The NCAA should consider going to a rain format, screw the schedule, just watch the clouds and get the games in when the weather allows.

Or we could just tell the northern schools, you have hockey, let us play baseball.

This happens every year. And somehow, they always manage to get all the games played.

It may be raining, but the sky is not falling. Relax.

Rain starts in the South in March. Didn't used to be a problem because there were only 8 regionals on one weekend. Now there are 24 sites (16 Regionals and 8 Supers) spread over two weekends. Much greater chance of encountering rain.

In 1989, game 1 was Feb 11, and the first game of the regionals was May 25. This year, game 1 was Feb 18, and the regionals started June 2. 1 week difference.

I was a student and volunteered on the tarp crew in 1997 and 1998. It rained like crazy in 97 and the tournament spilled over to Monday. We (the tarp crew) all "autographed" a baseball and presented it to Eddie Furniss while we were hanging in the dougout during one of the delays. Point is that one week earlier starting will probably not make much difference. I disagree with the OP.

I volunteered in 1996. That fricking thing was heavy.
