I know the rant isn't exactly known for rational thinking but its amazing to me how many people are anointing Mett as the savior and seem to think if he started he'd be a million times better than JJ. As if he'd throw 25 touchdowns 5 picks and for 3,000 yards. Keep in mind this is a guy that has NEVER been in a game against any D-1 teams. Remember that Lee was an Elite 11 QB who spent a year in the system before starting and we all know how he struggled. Do I see Mett as our future QB and a good QB for us? Yes but I also expect struggles from him as he adjusts to SEC football. He may start for us at somepoint this year if JJ doesn't get it together, but I expect to see him eased into it, rather than thrown to the wolves immediately.

Mett isnt experienced at this level, but its not like he's right out of high school either. He does have a lot of playing time under his belt. He would adjust to the speed.

I have more faith in Mett who battled for a starting job at both Georgia and LSU than Lee who was essentially a practice squad player in 04 and supposed to be the #3 QB prior to RP being kicked off.

If Mett started every game I would guess 58% 21 touchdowns 13 interceptions and 2400+ yards for a season.

Agreed I think he would adjust and I believe they can put him in situations where he can make one read and go or throw it away. I dont have faith that JJ is able to do the same his choices seem to be look at primary receiver the whole way maybe throw maybe not dont know how he makes that decision because it is not always based on how open receiver is. If he decides not to throw to primary he tucks and runs.

I think Mett already sees the field better.

He's been seasoned to some degree. However, to expect JJ or J. Lee to change poor throwing mechanics or the poor ability to read defenses after all this time is unrealistic in my opinion.

I agree to ease him in..AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

just curious, how much experience did cam newton have in sec before he came out of juco?

Comparing Cam and Mett is laughable.

Just because someone is a #1 JUCO prospect does not mean they're the next Cam Newton. Cam is a once in a decade (or longer) type of player.

Do you think over a stretch of 12 games he could throw more than 4 td's? Or over a stretch of 11 games, he could throw more than 2?

This is why people are excited about Mettenberger. He is obviously the most gifted QB on the team, anyone can see that.

I see the coaches easing him into things. I think he'll play a lot against Northwestern St. and some against Moo State and if he performs well in those games I could see a transition to Mett midseason but I'm not freaking out about him not starting game 1. Its a bit much for a guy whos never played a D-1 game to be thrown into Cowboys stadium against a team that was in the National Championship last year. You can bet the coaches don't want to pull a Lee and damage Mett's confidence and ruin him for good

spent 2 seasons backing up Tebow in 2007 and 2008 and actually got some playing time in those seasons before JUCO in 2009.

More than likely, yes. But can he lead the offense?

Obviously CLM and Krags think that JJ is the best overall package at this point in time. He doesn't have the best pass ability on the team by any means. Even Lee is better in that dept. But throwing ability is not the only thing factored into who starts. I'm not saying JJ is a fantastic leader and QB by any means. He's pretty terrible. But towards the end of the season he started gaining offense and looked like a leader. I think that is the JJ we will see this season. I think he'll be a game manager, and a leader on the field. I think we'll still see passes that hit the receivers' feet or sail 10 yards past them, but we will have an identity.

Young players have stepped up in the SEC with little to no experience before... If Mett won the starting job he would not be the first player to do so.

Better than the other two? I don't see how he can't. The bar isn't set high at all.

Do you know what LSU's offensive identity really is? No one is bragging about it.

He will be eased in, unless he just out right wins the jib in the fall. Which would be our best case scenario. But i think all three qbs will play this year. Actually dont be surprised to see 4 guys with a completion by their names.
