People seem to lose sight of the fact that the purpose of the playoffs is to determine the champion of college football. If we already know certain teams are not the very best of our conference there is no need to send them to the playoffs. If LSU loses against Georgia, neither LSU nor Tennessee should go.

Yeah I'm just not buying that. Nothing about this scenario changes. We still have a bad loss to Tennessee and a win over Georgia. That FLA state loss doesn't really matter for the committee

If Tennessee was really LSU’s ceiling we wouldn’t be ranked right behind them with a game against #1 and a chance to leapfrog them on the schedule. If LSU beats Georgia Rece is going to have to cope with that.

It absolutely matters. I don’t know what else to tell you. You can’t just completely disregard a loss regardless of when the loss occurred.

LSU also has a second loss which most of you seem to not remember.

But would then have the same amount of wins.

The additional game in the SEC Champ negates the opening season loss, IMO, but it could be because I have purple and gold goggles on.

If LSU beats UGA, they’ll have a strong case to make the playoffs, but it’s definitely not guaranteed unless some of the other teams ahead of them lose.

Davis never lets an opportunity go to waste to make a dig at LSU. Ever. He can say he’s neutral all he wants but I don’t believe it.

Correct. If LSU beats UGA it speaks to massive improvements made since the UT game. As Davis and Thamel say, they don't think LSU has improved that much. They think UGA >> LSU, which speaks to LSU not being better than or equal to UT in December.

Until proven wrong, UGA > UT > LSU is probably the majority impression. But if LSU beats UGA in ATL, that posit will be proven wrong, which would alter the CFP 1-4.

We'll see over the next couple of weeks.

That podcast alone makes me think LSU wins 31-17 over UGA.

Imagine LSU staying at #6 after beating UGA.

That’s what Rece Davis is purporting.

I mean Rece Davis is a fricking moron, but at the end of the day we can only blame ourselves after losing to a clearly inferior FSU in the opener. Letting a 12-1 SEC champ in the CFP is a lot different than letting in an 11-2 SEC champ.

Why do fans love to say this kind of stuff?

What are they “afraid” of in your opinion?

Rece is in his feelings because Brian Kelly + LSU = end of Bama’s time at the top. So he’s lashing out as a result.

Thamel is just a clown.

Yeah, I don’t think that’s it. Why do LSU fans think there’s always something personal behind every talking head’s take?

Ok that’s absolutely true.

"They" are not alone in this. LSU is the biggest underdog in the 30yr history of the SEC CG.

Arkansas was a 24 point underdog in 1995.

Not all of them, just this ones.

And the LSU guys in the media make no secret of their allegiance. That Rece pushes Saban talking points and is clearly pro-Alabama yet pretends to be neutral is the actual problem. Everyone has biases, if he just owned his it would be much less of a problem.
