I just tried to make some kind of sense of it. Because I have no idea where the Aubies got it. Perhaps I'll go with boiling oil all over and they have nothing else to associate it with but Corndogs.

Either way you don't see LSU changing from the tigers to the corn dogs. i.e. rebels to blackbears.

It started from the smell on campus for home games. So many people deep frying things smells like a state fair with all the stuff they deep fry.

Someone associated the smell on campus to corndogs from the state fair.

Now, people say LSU fans smell like corndogs. Next time an aubbie says it, just ask him if he knows where that came from and why.

Then explain it to him, remind him LSU leads the head to head series with Auburn, has more SEC and more national titles and that he should find a Miss St fan to heckle.

Not at all.

They may lose the game, but they'll win the party.

Initially, people called Nebraska fans corndogs because of the cornhusker parallel.

The smell from the LSU tailgates has been synonymous with the smells from state fairs for years, thus the corndog reference. This goes back long before the auburn fan's poem a few years ago.

I'm not going to argue the roots of the name because it's stupid. But believe whatever you want, I could'NT care less.

have you ever been tailgating in BR? be honest

you had it right with the nebraska reference. the corn dog thing has nothing to do with LSU and tailgating smelling like a state fair. The auburn fan "deep blue" just ripped off a USENET post written by a big 12 fan regarding nebraska fans word for word and inserted LSU in it instead of nebraska fans.

It wasn't the word "Rebels" that anyone had a problem with...it was the word "Rebels" written across the Stars n Bars multiplied by the ignorant "noose pranks" that people had/have a problem with.

You're definitely correct in your post. An Auburn fan saw that corndog crap about Nebraska(sp) on a big twelve message board. The Aubie picked up on it and applied it to LSU. The crap took off from Auburn, a school that doesn't even have a true mascot. Auburn has an identity crisis here in Alabama. This state is definitely an Alabama state. It's sad, because Auburn reminds me of Tulane in the state of Louisiana. I'd rather be called a corndog than a irrelevant school that is located in the state in which I live. Corndogs frying smell good, go to an Auburn game during the day and you smell nothing but animal feces coming from their vet school.
