It’s no longer even a debatable point. He’s got to go if for nothing else than for the program to save face. When you are historically awful you can’t keep your job at an elite school like LSU.

BUT, elite coaches should be able to adapt to what they have- not force what is not working.

See that's where the Orgeron's fault comes into play. We as a fanbase compare our team to Bama, Ohio State, Clemson, Florida, etc. When their DC/OC isnt coaching up to par, the head coach steps in and makes appropriate adjustments on the field. Orgeron is not an elite head coach, his staff was last year though. The saying, "An employee is only as good as their manager" is very applicable and O is just as accountable for the defense.

To put this into perspective, if you had a coach off with no help from coordinators, even teams, and no external factors benefiting either team, Saban, Ryan Day, Lincoln Riley, Dabo Swinney, and Dan Mullen would run circles around Orgeron.

I think the issue is adapting to these modern day offenses. Realistically - I do not believe any team in the country has an elite defense right now. They are not elite because the offenses are ahead of the curve currently. I liked Aranda because I believe he was trying to evolve with the new offenses. Our defense last year was loaded with NFL players and they still struggled a lot of the year. But, by the end of the year the defense finally put it all together and was able to shut down some really high powered offenses.

I think the 3-4 scheme is a lot better for modern day offenses with more agile athletes on the field. Or even the 3-3 like what Auburn threw at LSU last year with even more speed on the field.

Orgeron wanted the 4-3 defense because he is a defensive line coach and he wants his defensive line to look dominant.

Ok Bo, this is an awful post for many reasons but here are just a couple. It’s not like we had a drop off in defense where we are hovering in the top 50. This is the worst defense we’ve had in a long time. Like 115th in the college football bad. Also why has almost every player on our defense regressed since last year. (Stevens, Clark, Hampton, Flott, etc.) They didn’t suddenly forget how to play football. Thats a sign of a much larger problem.

Uh, do you remember 2007? Why not pull out the recorded LSU games vs Kentucky and Arkansas from that year and come back and tell me what a great defensive coordinator Pelini is.

He was a terrible hire; it's plain and simple. This is the worst defense in the HISTORY of LSU football and you spew this crap?

I totally think Pelini knows X’s and O’s, but there must be a communication disconnect and he hasn’t found a good way to explain what he expects from the players in certain down and distance situations. At this point in the season, guys still blowing coverage and looking lost, that’s on Pelini.
The position about O’s political stance and if the players are laying down because of it goes along with the way our society is nowadays. People can’t find common ground and just say, ok, we don’t agree on this but we’re here to accomplish a common goal and that’s winning championships and trying to make some of you guys millionaires.

Look at some of alabama's scores defenses across the board are giving up way more points, yards than usual. Whether it's covid, the spread of covid, the "spread" offenses I don't know, could be F it because of all the political BS and covid or lack of spring training. IDK
But I think ?? therefore I am

Effort.........this "defense' jogs, doesn't pursue the play if its to the other side of the field, quits on plays, LB's take on blocks flat footed and standing straight up.
That has nothing to do with getting his players in for his scheme. Anyone can play hard. Anyone can give great effort. This defense doesn't. Pelini (and ultimately O) don't hold them accountable and sit their asses for it.

I am a huge Bo Pelini fan, but there is no way you can say that Coach Pelini is a better DC than Coach Aranda.

True. But when your DB assignments are tied to the overall D, you really have your hands tied.

I actually agree and have posted a similar post on here few weeks back.
This was supposed to be an attacking style defense with double blitzing safeties/corners aka chad jones sack fumble. or the 0 dog blitz sack laron Landry had. Correct me if im wrong but I saw a safety and corner blitz in the first game against miss state and havent seen one since...its like they abandoned everything because the players didnt know how to cover on the back end. He taught his defense on a zoom call and no one bought in.
The fact that O wanted to switch to a 4-3 so quickly without have the correct personnel is partly his fault. Shelvin quit, thomas, ika, moore, mcclendon, brooks had no roles.
