Reason for refusing NIT bid?

Tell me if I am completely wrong,
but does anyone think the reason JJ refused NIT bid was because Ben Simmon's father, looking out for Ben and their family, went to Coach Jones telling him that his son would not be playing in a post-season game that had no meaning AKA the NIT risking injury for BS before his big shoe deal or getting drafted. Obviously our team would get embarrassed again playing without Simmons and Hornsby, not to mention the crazy amount of bad publicity that would follow Simmons not being willing to participate with his team. JJ made an awful decision in my opinion denying the NIT bid. It just shows proof of how out of touch he is with his team and how little confidence he has in his ability to put a team and a successful gameplan together on the floor to compete with anyone anymore. I hear he is a great guy and I don't ever wish anything bad upon anyone but I truly feel like next year will be more of the same with the possibility to be much worse. Due to the financial crisis our state is in there is a very unlikely chance that JJ will be fired and any significant moves will be made. It's a shame because next year with Coach Jones could set our basketball program back another 5 years. sad to think we were on the up and up but now this past basketball season will go down as the most underachieving season out of any sport in LSU sports history

Jones lost the team. It was just to avoid further embarrassment

Jones can't stand another blow out loss before next year. His thinking is next year when we suck with less talent it will be more understandable. When you are hired by a dipshite you get dipshite results.

Nah it wasn't that at all. It was because he was scared to go against the combined will of the rant posters that demanded LSU not go.

I think it's along these lines. The team as a unit fell apart as the season went on. I don't usually point fingers but that is on the coach/coaching staff.

Simmons can say what he wants. He wasn't going to risk injury in a pointless'arse NIT game.

I'll be so glad when Ben Simmons is not on this team anymore. Like today.

The LSU mens basketball team quite trying after the loss to Alabama in the P-Mac. I don't know for sure but I suspect that's where the finger pointing ( that's NOT going on, yea right.) started in the locker room.
It's for the best. This season has been a decable and I can not remember ever being so happy that an LSU sports season is over. Heer looking forward to next year and hopefully improving.

I think it's because the team wants it to end. Everyone is embarrassed.

Next year is going to be a shite show but it will be more tolerable since everyone is expecting it.

The last two years I have gotten excited about LSU basketball only to be disappointed in the results. As long as Jones is the coach I will have a pessimistic attitude about this team. I hope I'm proven wrong in the next few years.

Because there is a solid chance there wasn't actually going to be an NIT bid. It was smart to go ahead and save face. The media would have gone nuts if the #1 pick in the draft didn't even get a bid to the NIT
This, and what the above posters said. This team quit and gave up on Johnny. He didn't want another embarrassing loss.

LSU has too much money already. We're letting lesser schools have a chance to get the money that we earned with our wins. LSU feels the Bern.

If it's true that we are bailing due to Simmons and Hornesby not being there, one thing hat hasnt been talked about as much is JJs inability to develop anyone off the bench. Maybe if you had someone off the bench worth a shite down low who you could rely on, it wouldn't be as big of an issue.

This team looked like they hated playing with each other and Johnny even looked like he hated being the coach. Teams and staff is full of jabronis.
Also I believe they declined the bid because Simmons told johnny he wasn't playing

I don't give a shite who is hurt/who won't play. If you have 5 guys - you should accept the bid and play. Maybe you get blown out - but you always compete.
Turning down the bid is a big-time loser move. Who the hell do you think you are?

I think Ben, his dad and david patrick decided it would be best to end the season and johnny jones caved. Instead of ben looking terrible, johnny jones made himself look even worse.

They didn't try for the majority of their games. It started well before the Alabama loss in the P-Mac. They did not try in non-conference games and for whatever reason, they stopped trying while tied for first place in the SEC. That Alabama game was ridiculous! It definitely did not stop after that game. That problem was a season long issue.
I have also heard that this was more of a players decision than anything else. They players did not want to go to the NIT and continue practicing, traveling, getting embarrassed, the whole 9 yards.
