In addition, Alabama and Tennessee are the only 2 program that have historically been the top tier of the SEC
That was true 20 years ago. But I'm sure Peyton Manning would agree that Florida has taken Tennessee's place. Tennessee appears to have no plans to regain their former perch. But even Tennessee at its best was no match for Bama -- Florida at it best has given Bama as good or better than they've got. Thus, Florida is 7-3 in SECCGs with most of those victories over Bama.

actually i did not know. Chill out. I live in Fl. now and have to hear it all the time, until now. Things have honestly slipped at Florida. Urban has a lot of work to do. I think he is capable but not sure on his motivation towards the goal. Who was florida before the 90's?

Since when were we not good in the 60's and the majority of the 70's? Charles McClendon?
in this thread, history starts in 1992 when the SEC began playing a championship game.
we can't be bothered with real history.

Good. Never elite. Never great. Always second fiddle to Bama and the Bear.
Why do you think they fired Cholly Mac? Why do you think LSU fans want Miles fired?
Because we want to be elite and can't accept that we never have been.

Alter Much?
LSU is an Elite program and its HC job is one of the best in the country.
Ive read some stupid crap on here but this is by far the dumbest thread ever.
If you are not an alter you need to find another team.

Please define "elite"
Like pornography, I know it when I see it.
The LSU baseball team is elite by anyone's definition.
Our football team, not so much.

Again, Florida didn't even have success until 2 years before conference expansion.
Florida and their two state counterparts, the Noles and Canes, cycles in and out and this year and the Zooker years are prime examples. Florida has been, historically, far from dominating as Kentucky...but last 20 years, yes, they've been good.
Florida has 12 - 10 or more win seasons since 1991. LSU (pre Miles) had 7 since 1908.

I suppose those early 1970's teams of LSU and the dominance of the '86-87 teams are not part of elite.
"Elite", really here, is what have you done for me lately and Alabama is grandfathered in.

From 1961-1979
156-61-8 72% winning percentage
156-61-8 72% winning percentage

Im sure the playing of more games within the last 20 years had nothing to do with that though, huh?

Fully aware, but they've had them in two spurts...'91-'01 and '05-'09. What have they had before that? Again, not historically elite if we wanna look at the grand scheme and scale. How many bowl apperances do they have and how many did they have prior to 1991? Since 2001, LSU has had five 10 win seasons and Florida has had 5 also. See what picking and choosing can do for an argument?

LSU played more games too, not just Florida. Was LSU elite, successful, top notch?
Again: UF 12 since '91, LSU 7 (pre-miles) ever.

LSU is one of the top 5 most successful programs.
Really?
By what metric?
Since 1945, LSU is the 6th best team in the SEC.
Alabama -- 534-215-19 (.708)
Tennessee -- 508-223-23 (.689)
Georgia -- 487-244-22 (.661)
Florida -- 480-248-20 (.655)
Auburn -- 467-252-16 (.646)
LSU -- 469-253-24 (.645)

We won seven in a row against them in our last "run". We are also tied with Bama in all time winning percentage and Top 10 all time in wins. How that isn't elite I don't know.

Saban took the Alabama job because he considered it an elite job. Just as surely as Meyer did at Florida.
Then why did Saban take the LSU job first....I'll hang up and listen

And most sane people who aren't guzzling purple and gold Kool Aid would argue that Florida two spurts were infinitely more impressive to anyone who witnessed them than LSU's one spurt.
If LSU has another spurt of greatness in the next decade, then we can crow about how should be considered an elite team. Until then, we ain't. We just want to be one. Badly. So badly we want to fire our 7-1 coach now.
