My point was/is, we just weren't this overpowering juggernaut that was ruling the college football landscape like some people think we were.

We are considered a major college program both now and historically, and before a few years ago we weren't shelling out the huge coin we are now for coaches. Had we made that kind of commitment pre-emmeret, things might have been different. There's nothing wrong with expecting excellence. Yankee fans do and see what it gets them? If you want to be one of those programs you gave to think/act like one.

The Yankees don't exactly have the same spending rules as everyone else.

I think the point was pretty clear. Just sub North Carolina basketball in there if it makes it easier for you.

Damn good post, sonnyboy. None of the stupid, uninformed jabbering that regularly stinks up these boards like week old road kill.

Historically, we are in no way to football as they are to basketball.

Well, I think LSU is spending the money like others, just not as wisely. Miles is a good coach/CEO, but I think him not being more of a figure head is what limits him and hurts his image.

Meyer runs the offense and Saban his defense. You'll see several like that, but I think fans of those teams see their head coaches as more involved in their teams and player development. Because of the limitations in he # of coaches, having a CEO coach like a Miles can grate on some fans.

Overall, he's shown this season he can improve our defense, and is willing to make changes. I hope that continues into next year with our offense.

Great post VA. Agree with you totally. Some of my brethren need to have there 'LAST CALL" before the game so they can be a little more objective, and please get the breath mints.

I saw quite a few mistakes that Les made over the year, none that were he deserves to be fired over, while the game against Ole Miss was his fault.

We just haven't had the talent on our defensive line in two years and our offensive line this year. We couldn't muster a pass rush with four linemen, our linebackers and defensive backs were having to run support because our line was so weak. we need another McFarland or Dorsey. Our Defensive line was below average last year and had the same talent this year. Miles can only coach with the atheletes that are here.

The final item, tiger fans be careful what you wish for, look at ND-Wiess, Mich-Rodriquez, yes and mighty Pete - USC. It can always be worse.

What a pleasure to read this entire thread! Thanks to VA Tiger for your insight and well-worded thoughts.

Good luck to your son! I hope to see him running out of that tunnel.

God Bless.

If you're making fun of Alabama now, you have issues. Alabama wants to win and they will do what they think they should do to have it happen.

16-0 in the SEC last 2 seasons.

LSU is 8-8.

Wait until 'Bama has a down year or two (it's going to happen) and see how the Gumps react.

How many SEC Championships and national titles does Bama have to show for it? Or even big bowl wins?

More than any other school in the SEC. I think their NC's are in the double digits. Are you serious?

You mention Saban but temper it with "I don't think anyone would say he was of the elite tier of coaches he's considered to be in today" and it's wrong. Saban was already regarded as one of the real guys to keep an eye on.

Saban was 32-24-1 in 5 years at Michigan State. He was also O-3 in bowl games losing by a an average score of 44.6 to 16.3. Bowl games are all about preparation and a huge barometer for judging a coach. And he didn't do a real good job in last year's Sugar Bowl. Despite that, there is no question that Saban is an elite coach now and he was when he left LSU but in 1999 - No way he was even close to being an elite coach.

Yep. And at 45-26....it was the closest game of any MSU bowl loss under Saban. He also got waxed 61-23 by Jim Lambright and Washington in the '97 Aloha Bowl and 38-0 by Ty Willingham and Stanford in the '96 Sun Bowl.

He was talking about how many do they have to show for two undefeated seasons? And the answer is 0-2 in the post season. Are you serious?

And lets all please keep in mind that during this decade the SEC had become the epicenter of all the power in college football. The very best of the best in players and coaches FLOCK to this league to compete.

Great post! But keep in mind, the SEC is a bit overrated here in the Southeast. Over the past 10 years the Big 12 has been a higher ranked conference. Look at the facts. Currently the Pac 10 has 6 teams in the top 30. The Big 12 has 5 teams in the top 30. And THE SEC HAS 3 TEAMS IN THE TOP 30. If you want people to be pissed at your opinions, try pointing this truth out to them.
