Yea he thinks we’re spoiled. We have waaaaay higher expectations than ND. We are not “patient”.

That AD at ND carried CBK for years. Did a lot of the leg work of building a program, building facilities, convincing donors and the University of the need to invest in tbe football program.

I think CBK thought his job was football, and that was a 6-8 hour a day job.

Come down south, we expect him to actually DO what he said (compete for titles, year 3, etc), he didn’t like it.

Now we freak out and fire him. Thats his attitude.

Get ready - he’ll say as much, and worse, soon. Very publicly.

Perhaps Sloan was still valuable in some way & made to look worse via Nuss handcuffs. Perhaps Kelly realized this & felt responsible.

Just speculation, I know nothing.

I’m not saying I think Sloan is a good OC, but he did some good work with a few QBs here & I imagine we would’ve been a lot better on offense without dinged up braindead cement feet shittitude under center.

I do think Sloan was trying to make some sort of statement by calling a middle of the field pass on Van Buren’s immediate first snap.

ND would’ve fired him too after that debacle.

He is an excuse guy. He actually believed that his ND teams possessed better coaching but jacked talent. That the only plausible reason for losses on a national stage was on player quality.

I think he believed you get lower admission standards and you just put em in the field. When he realized that the programs here have superior coaching he had no answers.

Several statements he made were very revealing to me. One was the comment on his “expert” opinion of what a good O line looks like, and we had one. Then later, he admits that the line is not firing off the line of scrimmage like he JUST noticed it.

There were other “tells” that showed his lack of active involvement of coaching. I think he thought that if he could buy a defense, that the offense would repeat the year before’s level, and we would win the NC and another Heisman. For a self proclaimed expert on O lines, he ignored the weakest part of the team, AND didn’t get more involved.

don’t get why he didn’t just agree to fire Sloan and keep coaching.

Probably because Woodward kept surrounding him with the LSU retreads and coaches with Louisiana connections to the point where Kelly had no control left

[quote]think it was out of a timeout BUT I'm not sure when the play was actually set in stone. As you know, plays are changed at the LOS all the time and I believe the helmet communications are on until 15 seconds? before the play clock expires. To act like the play on the sidelines was the play actually called when the teams lined up on the LOS is probably not the think it was out of a timeout BUT I'm not sure when the play was actually set in stone. I beleive Nuss either changed the play or threw to the wrong guy. Looked like when Nuss came off the field, he was pissed at Kelly for ripping on Sloan and to me it looked like Nuss was telling Kelly that it was his decision on that pass.
Not that it matters to me, I was leaning towards getting rid of him last year but the clock debacle before half at Clemson sealed it for me and there was no coming back.

That is an interesting take and might be true BTW. Obviously, the play had to have occurred before Kelly went ballistic as he should have. But we don't know whether Sloan called the play as executed or Nussmeier "ad libbed". Whoever made the decision for that play is football dumb. There is no way that LSU gets another play if that pass is caught...not in the end zone...can't go out out of bounds...even a first down would not have stopped the clock long enough to bring in the FG team. If Nussmeier threw to the wrong guy, I would not be shocked. That is one of his biggest liabilities. It amazes me his choice of targets on a lot of plays. I would PAY MONEY to know who decided to throw a quick dump off {a good call BTW} to the slowest player on LSU's roster Sharp the TE {a horrible target on another play}

The spoiled comment says a lot. He had no idea the expectations here. It is on another level than ND. We fired a national championship coach after 2 bad seasons and bad coordinator hires.
We suffered thru 2 terrible coordinator hires in 4 seasons.

We have more Fd up calls out of time outs it’s insane. Almost every time it’s a stupid call or a false start.
