Reading a lot about Etling lately. Off-season fluff?

One of a few articles/blogs I've seen

quote:

Harris, it would seem, has a substantial edge in the competition having started every game last season, but don’t count out Etling, a 6-foot-3, 225-pounder who’s got a connection to offensive coordinator Cam Cameron. Etling and Cameron attended the same high school in Indiana, and Etling has spent about eight months digesting the coach’s offense.

Etling started as a true freshman at Purdue before losing the gig as a sophomore and leaving last year. While ineligible to play, he could practice with the Tigers and did so. By preseason camp, Etling will have been at LSU more than a year and practiced with the squad just as much as Harris. Last year’s quarterback battle was won during summer workouts, and that might be the case this season, too, but Etling needs to have a solid showing in spring to set up his summer and camp outings.

Considering the talk for a while here has been about trying to force an all-purpose QB into a pro style offense, should be interesting to see if this has any legs once spring practice starts in a few.

probably off-season fluff yeah, just pandering to the subset of readers who constantly ask about him ...

LOL at this being brought up as anything other than a footnote.

Hoping Harris has the 2nd year "I get it" that Mett had.

Where can Brandon transfer where the offensive coordinator went to Parkway so he can get on the field?

That's a weird sentence.

again, most of Mett's 2nd year improvement was getting out from under Studrawa as an awful OC and getting under Cam.

Harris has already had two full years under Cam.

Lmao...they went to the same high school and he's been here for 8 months? Well then, give him the job!

This is just offseason fluff and more of the same, "look at the talented backup QB we have on the roster...surely he should be pushing for that starting spot" crap.

I agree it's sort of a footnote point, but no one is saying he'll be a shoo-in for starter. Just that he'll be more of a player in the position than many may expect.

Etling and Cameron’s relationship “goes back a while,” Raetz said.

Cameron hooked up Etling with quarterback guru George Whitfield.

“Cam has come back in town and worked with Danny, and Danny went out and worked with Cam when he worked for the (Baltimore) Ravens,” Raetz said.

Hey, if he's speaking whatever language Cameron is teaching more power to him. I really don't care who starts as long as improvement is made.

Be prepared for the Danny Etling show next year boys. The ride starts Monday, the first round of spring practice. Be ready for greatness.

Im making my first post debut because I just wanted to say from what I have been hearing I do not think it's the same fluff as usual.

I know that Brandon and Jennings were not allowed in the facility for 2 whole weeks because of academic issues and Etling was the only quarterback working out with the team. I've also seen the Etling kid on campus and the dude looks swoll like you can tell he has hit the weight room. A couple of players have told me that he works hard so much harder than Brandon which was evident from him winning a gold shirt for the offense in offseason drills.

I also heard from some equipment guys on the team who say everybody loves him. I think we need to remember this kid was a four star qb and the quarterback who replaced him at purdue is now likely going to be the qb at Florida. Im optimistic that this isn't just the usual fluff.

Backups (In Order)

Danny Etling (6-3, 226, Jr.)
Seniority will likely have Etling as the No. 3 guy when spring practice opens, but if he puts together the type of spring that he had on the scout squad last fall then he will not stay there. While the physical tools are not as impressive with having a cannon for an arm, Etling does have a good grasp of the offense. He also has shown good ball placement and accuracy, a couple of traits that are more important than being able to make every throw with a big arm. There is plenty of work that lies ahead for Etling to really push Harris to the point that there is any gray area on who the starter is. The key is progression, and at this point, progression is what LSU needs behind center to get better play in 2016.

May be true... But I gotta call BS on the surface just due to the fact that Harris was out because of recovery from surgery.
