Go get Caleb Downs outta the portal

Don't set him up for failure immediately. He's going to Georgia

Ok well he’s gonna fail if that’s first task. We wouldn’t pony up for Dez Ricks. You think we’re gonna outbid the $1.5M that UGA supposedly offered? Not to mention OSU is rumored to be the leader for his services so they are probably paying even more.

And Trey Amos
This is a better task to put him on. Local kid we have a legit shot with.

Well since Downs is a confirmed stud I'd hope we would

More likely that he lands Amos from the portal and Antoine from HS out the gate.

1. We dont have NEAR close to the amount of NIL to attract Downs
2. It's almost a forgone conclusion he's going to UGA and following his coach

It’s all 90% money game 10% coaches these days to get top recruits or transfer portals to your school.. LSU is probably mid pack as far as money goes among other high ranking schools ..not saying LSU can’t bid with the best but you’ve got to have lots of bank to compete and pay these kind of players..welcome to the college version of free agency in college sports.. highest bidder wins…

This just isn’t true and there’s a long enough recruiting track record under NIL now to clearly prove otherwise. Maybe kids who are proven all-American caliber major conference transfers are exceptions but these kids are mainly committing to the coaches. Money is no more a factor now than when they were getting paid under the table.

Find some players who know how to tackle

And they’re from the same town. Amos should be a lock.

Unfortunately, recruiting as we have known it for decades, has very little to do with anyone going anywhere.
Recruiting for the star players these days is simply an auction or an unmonitored bidding war.
Sometimes, when the money is close, a player will stay in his home state.
Quite frankly, for most teams, others with seemingly unlimited $, like Ga. apparently, coaching ability is going to be more important than ever. Coaches are going to have to identify potential early and be able to coach 3* players up to 4-5* play level.
I am afraid LSU is one of those schools that will have to be better at that rather than buying the star players, either out of HS or the portal.

Agree on Antoine. I would almost say its less about the portal and more about closing on Bussey.
