If this list is, which program would it be easiest to win a title at right now...many of the teams on the list wouldnt be there.
(Michigan, Miami, FSU, Notre Dame)
If this list is about job security LSU, FSU, Miami and a few others probably would not be on this list.
Any of these programs can dish out the cash so thats not really a factor. I am being a little biased but I think Michigan and USC are the top two given the fact that both have the potential for success, but the program wont run you out of town when crystal balls are not coming in regularly. If Lloyd Carr was at many of these programs he would have been run out of town and any record of him being there would be burned. Lloyd Carr still has an office at Michigan and he is still active and respected there.

Ya think?
That sort of bias is not welcome on this board that prides itself on complete objectivity.

no offense but DA U and ND are more attractive scools than LSUmany northern schools have tradition....LSU is still climbing up to them...thats why a lot of coaches dream of ND...its Tradition...LSU is more of a recent thing but still top 10 because of recent success

Only USC may be debatable, given...
I have USC up as high because:
Pros:
1.) Talent-rich area in a populated state and can cherry pick their players
2.) National exposure, being in L.A., and when there aren't scandals, the media loves them
3.) Did I mention being in L.A.? SoCal, it's sunny, warm, and it's fun.
4.) Tradition is good, has a good assortment of Heisman winners in recent years(see Note 2).
5.) Easier road to BCS NC game (though a couple of teams are getting a lot better)
Cons:
1.) L.A. isn't a college football city. They may have the tradition and all that jazz, but their fans pale in comparison to many, many, many other fan bases

if you could change bama with USC
The main reason I don't have bama in the top 3 or interchanged with USC is recruiting location. I think the state of Alabama has been blessed with a lot of good recruits over these past few years. Now that NS has made Alabama relevant again, Alabama can start pulling more/better national recruits once the state of Alabama's talent comes back down. I just think SC will always have a lot of talent in their areas and don't really need to worry about have a down year in the state as Alabama might.
The only reason OSU is above Alabama is because they get a decent amount of talent in their region and they have been dominating the Big 10 in recent years past, making it an easier path to NC game. But OSU could easily be below Bama and LSU, imo.

Perhaps OK should be a little higher.
I thought about making them higher. They probably should be above at least Notre Dame and maybe close/if not better than Penn State. They have to pull a lot of their recruits from Texas, and it's Oklahoma (I just don't like it,
Really, though, I think the best coaching gig depends on your personality type. Want to be cemented as a legacy? I think Notre Dame and Alabama (literally) do pretty well if you can win there. Want a recruiting gold mine where you can harvest easily? See USC, Texas, UF, with LSU not far behind (we do have down years) and Miami (when they become relevant again). Want an easier road to a conference champ and possible NC? See, USC, OSU, Texas

ND:
You do realize that the each Big Ten school makes more from the Big Ten Network than Notre Dame does from NBC? Likewise with the SEC and CBS/ESPN?
In terms of profits, the programs rank this way:
1. Texas
2. Notre Dame
3. Penn State
4. Nebraska
5. Alabama
6. Florida
7. LSU
8. Ohio State
9. Georgia
10. Oklahoma
Of interest on that list --- No USC, No Michigan, and otherwise not one Pac10 or ACC team.

They are not ranked in terms of profits. They are ranked in terms of what Forbes thinks is most valuable. There are several teams that make a bigger profit than ND does, including LSU.
BTW, Michigan is at 11, USC is at 15, Miami isn't in the top 20.

i agree with that list except i se ND #1 and USC should replace UGA...

In terms of profits, in case anyone is wondering:
1. Texas - $59 million
2. Penn State - $50 million
3. Nebraska - $49 million
4. UGA - $45 million
5. Florida - $41 million
6. Oklahoma - $40 million
7. LSU - $39 million
8. Notre Dame - $38 million
8. Alabama - $38 million
10. South carolina - $37 million
11. Michigan - $34 million
12. USC - $33 million
And I'll stop there.
EDIT: I should say, I don't see what the profitability of the school has to do with making the school more appealing as a coaching job/gig. All of these schools in this list could easily afford to pay top dollar for a coach if they wanted to.

I just don't see how profits really figure into this.

nice analysis
And to sum it up, none of the posters picked UT.
The USC job is perceived to be two or three cuts better than UT.

The consensus has us also behind Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Notre Dame.
I think we are a better job than those four because of the amount of talent in Louisiana and that we do not have a direct in-state competitor for the talent.
Ohio has more in-state talent than LA, and we don't have an in-state competitor (unless you think Cincy will sustain their nice little run, which they won't).
