You can't exclude the good ones and include the bad ones when grading Mainieri on his assistant coaching hires.
why not? when Les Miles had that clusterfrick running his defense we all blamed him. He had other good coaches in place. Is this a new rule? lemme know.

Les actually had some horrible offenses, lsu baseball hasnt for the most part. Also, not sure anyone was saying les wasnt in the top 3-5 sec coaches

and possibly put Dave Serrano ahead of him
FWIW, his record against CPM is...
2-7
He also has 0 Titles, 2 CWS appearances, 3 Big West Conference Titles, and a handful of wins through his entire career compared to CPM's career at LSU only
3 CWS appearances, 3 SEC Titles, 4 SEC Tournament Titles, 1 CWS Title, and even more wins.

I never said you have to exclude Javi. Include them all to get a fair assessment of his ability to make hires. That has to include Dunn.

honestly only followed Serrano at Irvine and CSF.

And he never did much with those teams he had. He had some success but nothing out of the park. 2 CWS appearances and 3 Big West Titles.

Reminder: I'm not ranking him 1st. Just top 5.

I'd put him 5th on that list behind the ones listed behind him, and possibly put Dave Serrano ahead of him, which would bump him to 6th.

Why ahead of CPM? That guy has dominated him his whole career

remove javi and davis CPM is #1. it's all about who he surrounds himself with.
ETA: Hire Matt Heath as hitting coach and he's in a class all alone.

The 2013 LSU outfield under Davis’ tutelage played remarkable defense, committing just one error in 68 games.
Davis coached first-team all-American Raph Rhymes, who led the NCAA in hitting in 2012 with a .431 average and was named first-team all-SEC in both 2012 and 2013. Davis coached in 2012 all-SEC performer Mason Katz, who launched a team-best 13 home runs as the Tigers claimed the league title. Katz was the fourth-round selection of the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Davis supervised the development in 2011 of first-team All-American Mikie Mahtook, the first-round MLB Draft selection of the Tampa Bay Rays.
Other prominent Davis pupils include outfielder Leon Landry, the third-round draft selection of the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2010 and outfielder Jared Mitchell, the 2009 first-round draft choice of the Chicago White Sox.
