In The Advocate, Rabalais noted that “the sports world is getting its kicks kicking LSU football while it’s down.”

Rabalais reported that USA Today’s Dan Wolken tweeted “Not a good night for Brian Kelly but at least he’ll go home to his living fammulee” and there were others that Rabalais posted. He explained how these attacks have been going on since Kelly left ND.

Rabalais noted “the poor tackling, struggling blocking and, of course about a decades worth of special teams meltdowns” in LSU’s first game. Suggesting LSU was far from looking like the team in 2019, but implied despite all of the national criticism, Kelly can change all of that with a trophy or two but it will take time.

TTT - I must remind Rabalais that LSU can still win a title or a major bowl game this year, that would truly shut up the critics. I didn’t post the article because it’s a pay site.

Kelly can change the narrative with a trophy or two?

Wow such insight.

It was game 1, season 1 for Kelly with a roster built by necessity through the transfer portal.

I don't know what people were expecting. Our line was worse than I thought but otherwise I wasn't shocked we didn't go out there and beat the brakes off of Florida State either.

A bowl game win against ND would do nicely.

Kelly is going to face this his entire career here unless he wins a championship. Sucks but it's reality.

National media is trashing him for leaving ND

Southern/sec will just compare his results to Napier

Pretty much exactly this is what I expected and have been telling my buddies.
Only other "surprises" for me:
-CBs for game 1 played better than I expected
-WRs for game 1 played worse than I expected
Both of these are just as easily to do a complete 180º as they are to continue this way.

Easiest way to stop the ridicule is to fix the fundamentals that Kelly's reputation is built on.
-No dumb penalties (Gaye)
-Eliminate poor tackling
-Adjust your offensive scheme to your o-line (shorter routes, screens etc)
-Blocking on XP/FGs

I wasn't expecting a win or a loss, but I was expecting it to appear like they had their shite together (which it did not). You can't blame not having your shite together on Game 1, Season1 and new roster.

Not to be political but pulling for Brian Kelly feels like supporting Trump. Literally every little thing the man does gets ripped in the media and blown way out of proportion. It’s exhausting.

You mean a team that has a new coach because the last one was fired after going .500 the last two seasons is far away from the greatest team of all time?

I think it's time for LSU fans to realize that the National Sports Media will never stop kicking LSU and making fun of LSU, its coach and their fans. It's been a theme for them since the early days of Les Miles and they have no desire to let that bag of tricks get out of their grasp. Kelly would have to win two consecutive Nattys at LSU to gain their respect.

As for the other teams and fans in the SEC, of course, they would be very happy if LSU never won another football game EVER.

So, I expect all of the jokes at LSU's expense to continue.

For many in the national media a perpetual 10-11 win coach leaving the hallowed halls of Notre Dame to coach a program at a "far less" prestigious public institution (both academically and in football history) in the "backwards" south is unfathomable. Thus, they are getting their shots in a Kelly for such a "dumb" decision. Of course, this ignores the fact that (a) the guy is a football coach...not the dean emeritus of the university and (b) that football program in the south has won THREE national championships...while ND hasn't done so in 25 years (and counting).

It is easy to laugh at the guy from Massachusetts trying to sound like those backwoods idiots from the south when the results...after ONE game mind you...aren't favorable. Of course, the underlying and unspoken reason for the vitriol is because those in the national media don't like YOU (i.e. the southern resident/fan). They are better than YOU uneducated, (mostly) conservative, bible/gun huggers. So it is "funny" to see a very successful northeast guy fail because he was dumb enough to leave the prestige of Notre Dame to live amongst such irrelevant and second class people.

It's not that the media necessarily dislikes Brian Kelly. They just can't understand why someone from MA, coaching at ND, would chose to live and work with YOU people

yep. And if does what needs to be done, this year, and makes that game look like a fluke by eliminating those mistakes (i.e. never to be seen again) a trophy, this year, is not needed.

Keep in mind, just a little context, that might be one of the best DL's we face this year with an above average LB corp that played above their mendoza line (because we made it easy for them) in that game.

So the context is that just might be the floor for the OL. And it was bad, but we've seen worse and the offense had several opportunities.

- 1st game, 1st time OC'g, 1st time at C, 1st snaps at OG at Div-I level, freshman LT.
- first time they've played together
- a future NFLer on DE and probably, nay- likely, 2 in the middle.

JD has some significant improvement, but he made hay.

If this is the worst we will see, with the appropriate personnel changes, it's not really that bad.

It doesnt help the ridicule when local idiot media makes snarky remarks in press conferences giving the national media another thing to run to embarrass him. Thanks Leah Vann, please STFU next time.
