The main thing I've been critical of Manieri for was his philosophy of getting a ton of small infielders and having most all of them in the lineup that didn't have a lot of power, therefore you have to string hits together and that's hard to do against great pitching.

Paul did this for a couple of seasons between the time the bats changed and the time the balls changed.

He didn’t do it when the hot bats were still here and he hasn’t done it since the balls have been changed.

Y’all really have to drop this narrative. Or I guess Beloso, Bianco, Garza, Travinksi, CJ Willis and Mo Hampton are small guys without a lot of power.

The people thinking that recruiting a bunch of shortstops is a bad thing seem to not remember what position Jacoby Jones and Greg Deichmann played in high school.

As was explained in a different thread, we recruit shortstops, center fielders, and catchers. Because that’s where the best players are. The only one you mentioned that wasn’t one of those is the L/L 1B Beloso.

Do you think all those guys are actually going to be in the lineup at the same time? Yes, he has done a better job as of the last year or so, it's finding the right mix between good defense and offensive output and I give him credit, it seems he is trying to get to that.

That’s not the point. The point is that he’s been actively recruiting more power bats over the last few years.

What was Bianco in highschool? Shortstop? Just kind of hard to see him playing SS at any level to be honest

Bianco isn’t a shortstop

He’s a corner infielder

He’s not even that. He’s a corner outfielder now. I’m just curious as to what position he played in HS.

ETA: According to PG Bianco played 3b and SS in highschool

So when he says "we will be aggressive to a specific pitch", what do you interpret that to be? Just wanting your take on how you interpret what he means because I may be missing something but I interpreted it to be fastballs, being they are easier to hit than curves or sliders.

Without getting on base the slugging percentage behind you is irrelevant. Someone has to get on base to be driven in. Egg before chicken.

It is. The more base runners you have the more chance you have to score runs. You don’t want to hit a bunch of solo shots. Three run dingers are far better. Get on base to be driven in.

They say don’t steal unless you know you can be successful at least 70% of the time. And if you’re stealing at like 95% successive rate, you probably aren’t attempting enough.
