It’s not just talent, but coaching at this level. A 3 star can be coached up. We should have learned this during the CLM era - don’t rely on talent alone.

Scheme could be to blame also. We had offensive talent in the past and didn’t always utilize it in the right way. I just can’t imagine our position coaches are not amongst the best.

You are entitled to your opinion. I’m basing my opinion on interactions with posters on here.

In my view the correct answer is an all of the above answer.

Coaching
Recruiting
Talent
Scheme/game planning
And a big deal to me that upsets me in the second half of the last 2 games is lack of motivation or taking things for granted primarily by the defense.

There is definitely enough responsibility and blame to go around for every D player; every D coach; and Coach O.

It needs to get fixed pronto.

yeah right. The same group of chodes that pumped up Aranda hate O and this isn’t even a question. They thought Aranda should have been hired over O as HC and can’t stand that they were wrong.

As a defensive genius shouldn’t he be able to overcome weaknesses with blitzes and stunts though? I realize our front 4 isn’t good with pressure but isn’t it his job to try things tohelp them...I guess he thinks one day they will just become like Auburn’s DL
Well of course it is.

But this shite ain't Madden.

You could go find the greatest defensive mind in this history of football and that wouldn't make Arkansas' defense good.

Coaching matters obviously. But, it's still about the Jimmys and Joes

I wonder just how healthy the defense is. We could use Michael Divinity for sure, but the dang safties were out of position much of the second half.

I have to conclude that the defense is below average as their stats indicate. The pass defense is below average all year and the last two games the run defense has been gashed for huge plays.

This is not a championship defense.

He had lesser defensive talent at previous spots. For some reason, his style is not reaching this team. He might be cerebral, but it is time for him to start coaching with more demonstrable passion.

Why did you disappear last night after the defense started getting gutted like a fish? You normally stick around defend Aranda to the end

He was the most significant holdover from the previous regime. According to them Aranda propped up O.

Aranda is the “Professor”. He got schooled in the second half last night.

What needs to be done to correct our defense
We must get defensive linemen that are better than our current ones. Fehoko and Lawrence are just not good at this game. Chaisson has put together a decent year, as an outside linebacker, not as a pass rusher.

Our Ends are just not good at all at containment, they aren't good at pressuring the passer, they just are not good.

They shut it down in locker room at half. Kids quit playing. It happens.

The defensive performance was largely due to lack of discipline. One the biggest runs given up was by Chaisson pursuing the running back from the backside while the QB kept the ball and ran back in the direction Chaisson vacated. Any idea what the responsibility of the OLB is on that play? Yep, the QB.

Playing in a 3-4 is about discipline and run fits. You do the same things over and over. But these guys got caught up trying to make plays the couldn't make thereby exposing gaps the should be filled.

LSU is playing 4D chess right now.
We may give up a bunch of yards and 20-27 points to Arkansas as well.

When the tourney begins, we’ll be ready!

We do not have top notch line of scrimmage talent on defense. Have not had it in years. Th recruiting class changes that. But they will be freshman.

Other teams are trying to win and scheme We did just beat Alabama. Kids cannot and do not have the same focus after that kind of game.

Texas hashed us. Northwestern state moved the ball on our defense. Bama torched our defense. Florida torched our defense. Vandy scored 24 points on our defense and had a number of big plays. None of,this,is,new.

There have been same rumblings around the league that other teams have figured out Aranda scheme.

Have no short term alternative other than get better next week. Playing Arkansas is a blessing and a curse. We will not have to play better to beat them badly

Of course the fan base should want better. If our D plays like this next year then yeah maybe Arandas seat should get scorching hot but it’s obvious that talent is the issue right now.

If LSU's defense plays like this next year, they'll lose at least 3 games.
