It was always the quality depth. Never the top line talent. It was the Hal Hughes, Collier Cranford, Will Safford, etc. the 5’8 155 middle infielder that just can’t cut it.

I love how people point to 4 dudes as the reason PM was so awesome in their perspective and completely ignore the totality of the roster and lack of pitching

Yes he gets credit for those 4 ok? He also gets credit for the lack of pitching

Johnson’s late additions were integral in this teams success as well.

Mainieri got complacent, Cain cannot eval, and it was time for both to go. It doesn’t mean there weren’t a few bright spots the last few years, but overall the program isn’t where it needs to be and that’s why Jay is here now.

He will fix this situation left behind by Paul.

It’s ok to root for LSU even though your favorite coach is gone

PMs recruiting was sorta like Os at the end.

Some absolute insanely good players, but not enough to put a full team together.

“True, we have 4 good players even though the rest of the roster was a disaster. Therefore, PM is an ace recruiter”

PM was like Les Miles. The talent wasn’t a problem.

Baloney! The talent was exactly the problem. Four guys don’t make up a baseball team. Where was our SS? Where was our catcher (who could hit his weight)? Where were our starting pitchers?

Yeah, CPM had some good guys on the team - about 1/3 what it takes to win the National Championship.

You literally brought up my kids to defend the feelings of 20 year olds with sub.150 batting averaged. But I guess I’m emotional?

Cain cannot eval

I bet Cain turns out to be a very good coach. The problem was that Mainieri wasn’t working anymore. And in baseball, you’re not allowed enough paid staff to make up for one guy who isn’t working. Cain was trying to do the job of two coaches - at least! What about Dunn? Was he recruiting? I bet not.

Not a bash on PM but he should have never seen a college field. Dude is too good.

True. Everyone was aware that PM would be hard to replace. Nolan Cain was a big get for TAMU and hurt our recruiting some. All is not lost though. We had a better regular season with basically the same position players and worse starting pitching. It will take time. We all knew this.

That is complete and total bullshite.

How has "baseball history" helped teams that have slipped back like Miami, Southern Cal, South Carolina, Vanderbilt all of which have won CWS championships.

"Baseball history" is meaningless to guys that weren't even born the last time a school won the CWS.

We last won in 2009, and as I recall ESPN made a pretty big deal of our history then. So the guys on the team now were about 12 when that happened. That's about the age a lot of folks become fans of a team.
