Such a small sample size to be throwing Smart under the bus.

He had a wonderful game last year against a tough Tennessee team when Tremont was out.

There is a lot of pressure on him this year as the starting PG. He is still a young player, and young players are often inconsistent. He still has a lot to learn and improve upon.

I reserve judgment on Smart and this team until much later in the season. This would be the prudent thing to do IMO.

We actually have big guards. All three Back court starters are gonna be listed 6’4 or more. We have college power forward sized big men. Honestly do not think rebounding will be an issue at all due to size. We do not have that 7ft rim protector Bigby WilliamS type player, which will hurt against teams with great scoring from their bigs.

Cortese Cooper

Should never ever see the court in a meaningful game. He is legitimately not good at basketball. Like very bad

Still very early but this team needs much improvement to compete at a high level. Lack of a true point guard is proving to be more of a problem than I would have thought. I appreciate Waters even more, seeing what we look like without him. This is much more of a problem than not having bigs.

We can only hope that Javonte and Skyler settle down and start making better decisions, crisper passes and adopt more of a passing mindset. In these first few games they seem to be more interested in going one on one and driving to the basket than setting up their teammates. That wouldn't be such a bad thing but they both have a tendency to put their heads down and think of nothing but scoring. Tremont would always have his head up looking for a teammate.

Smart just needs to play a lot better, bottom line.

He can be a scoring PG, plenty of those exist. Smart and Mays had a combined 1 TO against UMBC. They can handle the ball fine, just were careless early on in other games.

Smart just looked checked out against UMBC, when Rogers, the 5'2 kid was guarding him it's like he didnt even try to do anything. When a guy is over a foot shorter than you, you dont just play passive.

Do we have any really tall guys in the band, perhaps that play Tuba?

I think it's a legitimate concern. As others have stated, rebounding is a mindset. Emmitt definitely has it.

Being undersized can also allow other teams to have no fear when taking it to the hoop. Bigby-Williams had that presence that altered shots made other players question whether it was a good idea to challenge the interior. I think some teams will attack constantly until we are able to defend well without fouling.

Agreed on Manning. It looks like he's more comfortable each game.

One curious thing about Javonte that I've noticed since his days at Scottlandville is he's never appeared very comfortable dribbling to his left consistently. It's weird considering the high level of guard he's been for so long playing on national teams, etc. It makes him somewhat predictable to where he wants to get with the ball.

Obviously it is a very small sample size, but LSU is currently 15th in the country in total rebounding rate. Watford is holding his own, and while they may be "undersized", Days and Williams are VERY efficient rebounders...particularly Days (when he can stay on the court) who had 10 rebounds in 21 minutes last night. If he can stay on the court, Days could be a legitimate double-double machine. So, THUS FAR, rebounding hasn't been an issue. Further, LSU is nearly doubling their opponents in points in the paint.

Now, those stats are going to get tested on Friday because Utah St. is a very efficient offense AND they are currently 4th in total rebounding rate
