Probably Riley Smith or someone like that. I don't think we have to go as far back as Nick Goody.

Supposedly Ben McDonald , but I’m not old enough to confirm

Gausman was supposedly hitting triple digits before he got here, but that was in Colorado.

Brett Laxton used to be able to get it up there - maybe 96.

I don't believe Gausman ever hit 98 while at LSU. he has since making it to the majors.

The answer is probably Hunter Keil a couple years ago. he couldn't throw strikes but he could throw hard.

I feel like Hess and Peterson would make great closers if we could work them back into those roles this season. I remember Hess being brilliant in that role the last time we were in Omaha.

Gausman did not throw that hard at LSU. 94-96.

Gausman was 95-97mph his sophomore year and touched 98mph.

He wasn’t doing it consistently.

Gausman was staying at 98 in that game that was postponed and resesumed play the next morning in the 9th.

I want to say Hess hit 98 a couple of times back in the closer role.

Edit: somebody already said it. Should have read the thread first

Hess was hitting 98 when he had the closer role in 2017. He had that stretch of like 20 something innings where he was untouchable towards the end of the year, and he was hitting 96-98.

I don’t remember Hess hitting 99 at the box. He might have done it away, at SEC tournament, or CWS though. But if I remember correctly Hess seemed to have lost some velo in that CWS and the most I remember seeing was 96, which is still blisteringly fast
