Question for the gurus - why don't our break away runs take it to the house more

I'm not turning nega. I promise. But it has struck me this year that a lot of our break away runs don't go all the way as we've seen in past years and as we've seen other teams do.

First, is my perception somewhat accurate? And, if so,

Second: Why is it? Do our guys this year just not have the tip top elite speed as in past years? Are defenses just in playing deep to stop it? Something else?

Lacking top end speed and LF7 does not have the balance that Jeremy Hill has. He was so close to breaking several last night but got tripped up.

I had this exact question on another post. LF's long run should have been a TD if he had the elite speed everyone says, but he got caught.

I like our RBs but they don't have breakaway speed.

That last big run the DB caught him from behind. I thought he would have taken that one to the house with how the coaches and players saying he's one of the fastest players we have

I think most teams have dbs that have great speed just like LSU.

LF does have elite speed, but so do many DB's. He made it to the final heat in the state finals of the 5A 100 meter, didn't win, not sure what place he came in. So he does have elite speed depending on how you define it. No he is not ever going to be on the Olympic track team. Same shite goes for Durel and Quinn to some extent.

I caught the replay of the Alabama vs Auburn 1982 game yesterday when another freshman -Vincent 'Bo' Jackson - broke a long run up the same left sideline from about the same position on the field as LF did last night.

Bama DB Jeremiah Castille - who BTW played some in the NFL himself - had a similar angle to what the A&M DB had on LF - and also caught him.

I think LF is "average fast" for D1 college football but his size-speed ratio is well above average.

I think this is the correct answer.

It happens when you run diagonally. Same thing Hill got ran down going diagonally against Auburn on his second long run.

But you are that same arse clown downing him earlier this year so I can see your backhanded bullshite from a mile away.

Dude had a faster track time than Nick Chubb, Roc Thomas, and close to Marlon Humphrey just off the top of my head. If people don't know who the last two are, look them up.

LF has elite speed. The DB that caught is pretty damn fast. Floyd Raven has speed

Does LF7 have the body type to lose 10-15lbs and get that extra burst?

You hear about RB's doing this all the time in an offseason, but Fournette doesn't have that stocky thick build, so I don't know if this logic would apply.

I kinda think if we did break a lot more long TD runs over the years...who knows, maybe we dont wear down as many teams with long drives and 5-10 yard smash runs. The way we've won over the last 10-15 years it may have suited us better. Just ramblin sorry

I hate to say it, but Fournette is not as good as advertized. He had several openings last night that somebody like Melvin Gordon probably would have taken to the house.

Serious question. Have either one of you ever played sports? The DB had an angle on LF. Usain Bolt could be run down by someone with the proper angle.

I think those extra lbs benefit him more in this system than would the speed bump from weight loss.

Mostly.because defenses are playing a single high safety and with that comes great angles for a back to overcome. Last year defenses tried to blitz the hell out of Mett and no safety equals homerun. Over and over and over.

None of the RB's have breakaway speed.

Nor do they have that ability to break a defender's ankles. We have good running backs... Magee seems as good as Fournette to me... not particularly great ones.
