I know this system was implemented during Covid season last year for reasons, I thought, to give the most flexibility to players whos teams/seasons may have been significantly impacted. But, for now, it seems the advantages are all to the players, and I can see how difficult this is for coaches trying to build teams through recruiting. But for others, it allows them to build teams immediately.

However, to me, seems if a player is not happy for any reason, the transfer portal is the answer. So, not sure what happened to the system where players would have to sit out.

So, here is my question...will this now be a permanent part of college football, or will they re-evaluate this as it was only supposed to be a bridge program.

What has the portal changed?

Non-graduate players still need a waiver in order to not sit out a year under the current portal system and pre-portal.

Right, the transfer portal is just a central location where everyone can see who is wanting to transfer. Kids always have transferred it’s just at a higher rate now with a designated place to do it

I believe they are now allowed a one time transfer with immediate eligibility as of May 2021. That is my understanding but I could be wrong.

Is there not a one time transfer rule? With no waiver required?

Edit - not being a dick. Honest question. Like what marcel brooks , Mike Jones , and offensive linemen who went to Kentucky did? Drawing blank on his name.

Dare Rosenthal is who you are talking about. Personally I think the transfer portal as now set up is a frick job for some programs waiting to....or already happening. Think Arik Gilbert. That had more to do with Kirby Smart's ego than anything Orgeron was doing. Georgia people were pissed when Gilbert signed with LSU....he was supposed to be in Athens. They paid good money for at least a year to ensure it.

The difference is, as I understand it, is that players always had to sit out one year and often had to get the approval of the leaving team to move to a school within the same conference. I think that is out now.
It is just way too easy for players to move from school to school to play football. Now with the pay players rule, teams can literally meet with the 'players agent' and offer them a lot of money to move to their team. Ultimately, the schools with funny money can buy the best teams. Think Ark with Walmart, Oregon with Nike and so on. I think the NCAA has created a huge mess for college football.

Has totally changed the game. Successful coach these days will not only have to be good with traditional roster management and recruiting, but also be able to maneuver in the transfer portal game.

it would be so much easier if we could just somehow put our coach in the transfer portal ??
