Arguing about statistical analysis is not the point. The perception of officiating bias is the point. Go rewatch Auburn/Arkansas from last week. Not 4 years ago or a trend that goes back to Saban's arrival at Bama - last week. The blown call on the fumble return for a TD swung the momentum in the game to the home team from Alabama. Its beyond defending that call. Just like the no call on the interference on Doucet, the never called before or since call on the missed extra point, Peterson's no INT cal, etc.....
There is a plainly obvious trend of SEC officials badly blowing calls that seem to benefit the home team in games in the state of Alabama. It doesn't help the perception when the league office is in Bama and Bama people hire all the refs. These are facts. If you don't like it, we could discuss moving the office to a neutral site - say St. Louis. Propose that and see who complains the most and it'll tell you who has the most to lose.

Yea, the fact that they hire refs out of Birmingham, AL that live in and around Alabama which is a very polarized population for Alabama and Auburn makes no difference in how they call home games for those teams. They don't have family and neighbors in Alabama who are boosters of those teams and feel no pressure whatsoever to see things in a favorable light for the schools everyone in their daily life want to succeed. That's just crazy talk. After all, there is nothing subjective about calling a college football game
Would you mind posting a roster so we can see just how many of them live in Birmingham.
Thanks in advance.

Personal knowledge...I'll leave it at that.
Back it up, preferably with some sort of documentary evidence. TIA.

I think the refs aren't bias, they are incompetent and by and large insert themselves in the outcomes of games way too much. They love to be on TV and it shows. They tend to be affected by the home crowd on pass interference calls way too often and their replay record is absolutely atrocious. They may as well not even use replay if they won't overturn obvious bad calls.

To me the case is SEC refs are just horrible in general. Maybe, and that's a BIG maybe, on some subconscious level there is a bias. But I think the real issue is just the refs are horrible.
I do admit though, it does sometimes seem like the refs hate LSU.
More than anything it's just frustration and people want to vent and don't want to believe our players legitimately messed up. There are some bad calls but there's no conspiracy here people.

I haven't read the posts in this thread, but not only were there multiple blown calls in the LSU/Auburn 2006 game, but then the SEC Office would not admit their mistakes. This at a time, when the PAC 10 suspeneded a crew for blowing 1 call at the end of a game, the SEC wouldn't even issue an apology to LSU.

Ray Ray, did you get a chance to compile a list of names and loan amounts yet?

Ask the Arkansas fans about the refs. I don't believe that the refs cost the razorbacks the game, but they sure as crap blew two calls that were very backed up by the CBS cameras. The funny thing is, there is a eye doctor in Fayetteville offering free lasix to any of the refs in last week's AU-UA game.

All I know is that Bama almost never gets called for holding.
And I know that every single close, controversial call goes in favor of Auburn. Or maybe I'mn still jaded by 2006. You cannot ever convince me that game was not fixed. It was just too much.

In college football, what team does get called for holding regularly?

This. I expect no different on Saturday.
Can you imagine if the fake field goal against UF had been called against Auburn or Bama? The refs would've ruled it either an illegal forward pass or incomplete.

A key official , I believe it was the replay official in both the Auburn game & the Bama game ,both lived in Bama with strong ties to each school ! In the case of the Auburn game, the official's daughter went to Auburn. When the spotlight was focused, it was easier to get some personal information on the refs. I'm sure because of the bad publicity and due to security reasons the SEC office is not going to put out a list of the names & addresses of the SEC officials.Do you think the SEC is going to help anyone (that's not in an official capacity)obtain the evidence that would expose the SEC's favoritism to the 2 Bama schools? Come on!Besides you are the one that disagrees w/the majority so why don't you get the proof to defend (according to NCAA) the 2 biggest cheaters in the SEC !
Thanks for supporting LSU !!!

How bout other replay officials? Do we know where they're from, or if a guy with LSU ties, or S. Carolina ties, and so on, officiates any SEC games?

CM told boosters several yrs ago at the Gridiron Club luncheon that when he was at Ok.St, he would talk to the head of the Big 12's refs twice a yr.Once in the beginning to go over any new rules or points of emphasis that would be inforced that yr, and then again at the end of the yr to provide his grading of the conference's refs. Here at LSU, in the SEC, he said he's calling the head office every week, with multiple, black & white blown calls complaints. He did get an unofficial...i.e. unpublished..apology on 4 of the calls that yr in the Aub. game. His point was that the quality of the refs in the SEC are horrible.

Not sure if this letter was posted here yet, but here it is..
Letter to SEC and Slive from SEC fans
quote:
Dear Commissioner Slive,
We come to you as a collective voice asking for a simple thing. Fairness and equitability. We do not come as fans of the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Tennessee Volunteers, Florida Gators, Louisiana State Tigers, or any of the member Southeastern Conference schools. We do not even come as fans of the Southeastern Conference. We come together, united as the global community of college football fans.
Over the past decade, the SEC has proven their strength in college football. Few will deny that the SEC has the best collection of talent and coaches. The record and number of BCS Championships speak for themselves. Some have wondered why the best conference in the country could find themselves with the worst officiating crews. Over the past two seasons, however, an unfortunate truth has started to reveal itself.... read more in link below
