Why bring him in if you are going to slow it down and mostly hand it off? Hell just leave Burrow in if that’s what you are going to do. You are doing Brennan no favors because he doesn’t get reps running the real offense. You aren’t doing the program any favors because, outside of practice, you don’t know if he can actually run the offense or not.

I agree

Either they’re confident enough with his practice performance to do this

Or they really just don’t care about developing him in game situations

His first play was a pass
He threw 3 times with zero receptions

He threw a few times - one was dropped. Another was a deep ball he overthrew. Its not like he was doing the Miles era hand off up the middle each play.

I agree that they need to continue the offense. But I also don't mind them slowing it down a tad.

I think it has more to do with getting him used to the feeling of taking snaps on the field in a live stadium. Still part of development.

The ONLY reason Brennan subs into play is to make sure Burrow doesnt get hurt. This is done at every level of football and backup qbs never run the same offense as the starter.

The first reason being that coaches focus on this year and wont care about next year until next year.

The second reason being why add fuel to the fire for the next time you play your current opponent?

A drop and a deflected pass on 3rd and 11 after we got a holding call.

Yeah they might not want to beat us next if we only beat them 36-13.

That drop on the slant by McMath might have gone for a TD

Only a couple passes. One drop and then an overthrow. Brennan needs game experience and aburrow does not need an injury in a game already secured. Brennan will get a couple more games to get experience this year

Wrong - Brennan's job is to be the backup and do whatever it takes to learn and develop and be ready in case Burrow gets hurts. In games where the outcome has been decided his most important role is allowing Burrow to be removed and avoid being hurt during meaningless minutes.

No minutes are meaningless for Brennan at this point - do agree it would be nice to see him get a rhythm and sling it a little but he is benefitting from getting live reps regardless.

They’ll know in practice if his ready. Mop up duty this year won’t tell them anything. This ain’t Les Miles we’re dealing with. If O is actively looking for a transfer in the offseason, that will be the sign.

We aren’t going to throw it all over the place when we bring in our back ups on the road in the sec. He was running our offense that we would be running up 30 in the 4th. He did get a few pass attempts and had a perfect pass dropped. Any live snaps for a qb are better than none.

I agree. Either leave Burrow in and stomp on the throat or let Brennan get in there and air it out.

I'm so tired of the Brennan adoration. Just because he put up big numbers at a small school in the Mississippi PRIVATE SCHOOL league, you guys act like he's the second coming of Joe Montana. He MIGHT be good enough to start for us next year. A back ups QB's job is to come in during garbage time in a big win or GOD FORBID to play if the starter gets hurt. We needed to go full Les Miles and he shouldn't have thrown ANY passes.

Never??? I can think of one coach and situation that contradicts your statement. Turned out to be a pretty smart move too. But frickem anyway.

Virtually every coach in history does/did this. Who knew you and the OP would unlock this secret and revolutionize garbage time.

He had one pass that bounced out of McMath's hands and another throw tipped because Traore failed to cut the DE. The other was a deep throw against tight coverage. Brennan did his job. Unfortunately others didn't execute. The last few times Burrow had the ball you could tell the offense was out of synch.
