I mean Nuss’s dad got him a start last year

Some people want to crown him based on what he did in a no touch game vs our backups.

I am Not as sure about the kid but I’m sure I’ll hear about the IT Factor all damn summer

You don’t have to be sure yet. That’s why you continue evaluating him through the year. See if you’re ok with him transferring after the season, or if you want him to be your guy next year. Find out if it was just because it was against back ups.

But I’m definitely finding that out before the end of the 2022 season because if he doesn’t think he’s starting next year, he’s gone. Better find out if you’re ok with that.

Competition at QB is what you want. We’ve raised our talent level from 2 and 3 stars to 4 and 5 stars. Excluding our GOAT - Mr. Joe

2023 becomes a very big problem if Nuss transfers and Daniels doesn’t work out. You then have to turn to a RSF Walker and a TF (hopefully) Dante Moore. Both great QBs. Both just very young though.

CBK got JD to come here with this talent in the QB room. I trust he’ll get us a portal guy if that plays out

Note: this a along way down the road, but the play of Nuss was very solid, and with more development he’s probably your guy for atleast 2023.

Yeah I feel good about his ability to control the roster.

If Brennan is your guy this year, just have a good idea who your guy is in 2023 as well and it’s communicated. I hate the idea of relying on the portal for a qb if you have a guy on you’re roster you feel is capable. Like I said though, I’m not worried.

The only thing I'd say is a likelihood would be Daniels getting a few snaps to run the ball each game. (if he doesn't win the job outright) His legs are a weapon.

Why does Howard need a lot of time?

You can count on one hand the last five years how many top ten true freshmen or sophomore qbs have had any real measurable level of success. Trevor L, Caleb Williams and Bryce Young are about it…The Kylers, Bakers, Burrows, Mac Jones and even Stetson Bennets take time to develop. That’s the far more likely path…

Howard in the spring game looked like Nuss last year in the spring game. No telling who will be the guy next year unless somehow Nuss became the starter this year, which I've become not opposed to.

ETA: My prediction is still Daniels. Despite what people say about his passing I feel like a lot has to do with being in the middle of improving his footwork and just lack of timing with the WRs. I think all but two passes were out of the reach of the receiver. A couple of those passes Lacy didn't grab would have been grabs by Bech, Nabors, or Boutte. People like to put it all on the QB, but that's what having awesome WRs is for. Jefferson and Chase caught a lot of passes from Burrow that were off target. The receivers last year made Johnson, statistically, look WAY better than how he actually played. Johnson threw for 2800 yards with 27 TDs to 6 ints in 12 games and a lot of us wanted him benched. We would have KILLED for numbers like that in a good year at LSU. You can tell the difference by watching the games that the WRs and scheme (more spread compared to years past) did most of the work. I expect him to be fully prepared by FSU. I think he has the mentality to do it.

He can be EXTREMELY dangerous running. That is the fastest QB I have seen at LSU in a long arse time. That one he broke for about 20 would have been much longer if it was a real game. His running is speed not power so you have to get more than a hand on him. If they can get 15lbs on him, doesn't have to be all muscle, I think that will be enough for his type of run style in the SEC.

It’s a transition year. Make Brennan QB1, and let Nuss and Daniels battle for 2. If Nuss keeps improving, then I’d rather see Daniels transfer out of the 4 current QBs.

Howard to me looks like a less game ready Nuss. Which is understandable considering he’s less experienced.

Agree. In terms of physical traits, the two are remarkably similar in size, arm, strength and mobility. Nuss may have him by a 1/2 inch in height, but that’s about it.

Nope. Too talented. With the portal, those days are gone. That’s why it is imperative to sign a QB every year. And just expect that some are going to leave.

There will be coaches in Nuss’s ear after they watch our spring game. Not saying he will leave if he doesn’t start but if there is a team out there that is QB poor they might take a run at him.

True, but if he doesn’t start this year but looks like he has a solid chance to start next year, he probably stays. Nuss is not a grad transfer. The day for underclassmen to enter the portal to be eligible next year is May 1. If he doesn’t bolt by then, he’s here through next season. Grad transfers can leave at any point and be eligible next season.

I really think next year Howard is going to start. But if not next year than definitely in 2024. Walker is not sitting for 3 years.
