PM started him in 7 of the 10 spring games in CF. So he’s likely going to get a lot of chances despite oOoOoO not thinking he’s going to play

I hate that for him. If his arm can get healthy he is so effective

So you are saying people are "missing the point" about what you are saying, yet here you are claiming I said Gio wouldn't get chances to play. Not once did I say that. Don't call somebody stupid, and then continue to make yourself look like an even bigger fool.

Did I call him bad names or did I just criticize his play/talent? Probably both. That said, I was more than happy to be proven wrong when he gave us some production last year after rejoining the team.

Then again, that was last year and has nothing to do with the conversation in this thread. Please try to stay on topic and stop muddying up baseball threads with your troll posts.

All I’ve gotten from this is that I have absolutely no clue who or where anyone is starting this weekend ...I couldn’t keep up with how many “mights” or “mays” were used by PM. Who knows?

You said that Cabrera has never played CF in a scrimmage. That is exactly what you said, and you were wrong. It was pointed out that he did, and spent most of the fall there. Just admit you were wrong and drop it, instead of carrying on another 5 pages about how you weren't really wrong.

If you didn't pop into every thread, pretending that you know everything about everything, and turning it into a pissing match all about yourself, then nobody would bother. That isn't going to change though, so take your damn medicine when you are proven wrong and STFU.

You may get away with your made up BS in football and basketball threads, where there are a larger number of posters that have no clue. You jumped into a simple talk about possibilities of what the lineups could look like, by mostly people who have paid attention to every summer, fall and spring practice, and turned it into your normal shitshow.

What if he is hitting .265, but getting on base at a .400 clip?

Or.... What if one of the people who would be trying to put him on the bench is hitting .245?

No, we're supposed to pretend that the goal of the batter is to get a hit, not to get on base. Besides, walks are passive. And they show no skill on the batters part. They're basically gifts from the pitcher.

I've run out of sarcasm on this particular point.

I'll give it a shot (for Friday) based on what all he said (and I'm not necessarily hitting on the batting line up, just positions):

CF - Cabrera
2B - C. Doughty
3B - Mathis
1B - Beloso
C - Garza
DH - Travinski
RF - Dugas
LF - Bianco
SS - Hughes
P - Henry

Then on Saturday, it looks like
C - Milazzo
DH - Garza
CF - Gio
RF - Cabrera
2nd - Doughty/Dugas (may depend on how Friday went)
LF - Toups/Bianco (I think it will be Toups based on what was said; but if Bianco goes like 3-4 with extra base hits on friday, then he may stay in to see if he keeps it going)

Sunday probably depends on the two preceding days and how players play. But if Toups doesn't play Saturday, then you will likely see him on Sunday. And if LSU wins the first 2, and depending on how Hughes looked at the plate, then you may see him try out the combination of Doughty at 3rd, Mathis at SS, and Dugas at 2nd. Garza goes back to catching if healthy.

ETA: Milazzo catching on Saturday, which likely bumps Garza to DH on that day, then Garza back to catching on Sunday pending health.

I don't expect Gio to walk much. He rarely did last year and the fall/spring stats aren't telling me things are different.

Yea Mainieri put him in spots where we needed hits and so he had to swing but in the 7-8 hole, he's going to see the nastiest pitches - a ton of strikes - and he's going to have to produce.

.400 min OBP for him to stay in the lineup. If he can walk, great. Would love for him to be Lairdish. Not sure if that's in the cards. Hope so.

All that said, if Mo can hit, I see him as a better option.

Gio was tied for 4th in walks last season. And every person that reached on a walk more than him had more appearances, and most by 100 ABs (except Reid, who was at about 30 more ABs).

This is going to be another constant theme all year. Hampton is known from football, so he will be the guy that "needs to play." In the first sentence, it was Gio doesn't walk enough (which was false), and spring ball was cited. Yet, Hampton struck out a ton in spring ball, but he is the better option.

He was streaky. Clutch at the beginning of the year, had a tough post season other than that one AB in the SECT.

Love his speed. Love his lefty stick. Hope he's able to put it together this year.

That said, I hope Mo comes around quickly. Maybe Mo Cab and Gio in the outfield is something that we have in place by SEC play. Otherwise, I'd like to see Mo Cab and Doughty/Bianco/Willis for power.

The football player playing baseball is always the fan favorite on this board. I think we are all pulling for him to break into the lineup, but some people need to pump the brakes. He’s just a freshman right now and he’s a little bit behind in practice right now. His upside is high, but he needs to earn starting time just like everyone else on the team.

At this rate I hope all of our outs are from base running so we have the highest BA in the country in 2020
