During Media Day, you spoke of a few position battles. I’d like to ask you about a few of them, starting with Gavin Dugas and Cade Doughty at second base. How’s that battle shaking out?

Can you talk a little more about the centerfield competition and how Mo Hampton is doing?

Paul Mainieri: Well, like I mentioned to you, if I want to get Dugas and Doughty in the lineup at the same time, one possibility is to put Dugas at rightfield and Cabrera at center. That’s something I may do against left-handed pitching until I think Mo Hampton is ready to be in there.

I guess a couple of players who fit into what you’re saying there are Garza and Milazzo. Are they going to be rotating this weekend?

Is it too early to say who will be counted on in various roles out of the bullpen?

Good stuff. Sounds like PM expects the lefty to go for indiana friday night and have cabrera in cf, dugas in rf, doughty at 2nd, and travinski dh.

Also interesting to hear that toups has earned some spot starting in lf. And that walker has some arm soreness.

Might want to just sit this one out Lester Earl.

Yep.

"When we face the left-hander on Friday, I may end up starting with Cabrera in center and Dugas in right and Doughty at second. And then the next two days against the righty, go with Dugas and put Cabrera back at rightfield. And then we’ll kind of see, as time goes on, what looks like a good combination."

What I said yesterday:

quote:

No mention of Doughty DHing, but mention of him being in the top 5 of the order, means he is playing a position. The only thing we have seen that mean was Gio out in CF, or Hughes out at SS.

quote:

When we have seen Dugas and Doughty in the line up, it's been Cabrera in CF, Dugas in RF and Doughty at 2B.

Lester Earl says:

quote:

No one other than Gio or Hampton have played CF in any of the scrimmages. And it’s been mostly Gio with the 1st team.

of course this was proven false

quote:

So Cabrera played CF once out of what, 12 scrimmages?

Would be weird to do that and not play the guy that has been playing but guess we’ll see

Then goes on to argue for five more pages about how he wasn't wrong, even though he was.

Today Mainieri says:

quote:

I can play Dugas at right field and flip Cabrera to center like he played all fall, and play Doughty at second. Or, I can play Dugas at second and put Doughty at third and slide Mathis over to shortstop. So, there’s a chance that a lot of times they’re both going to be in the lineup

Not really. Most pitching issue pop up in the pre-season practices or very early in the season because of the ramp up process.

There is a reason people call spring training Tommy John season.

excited to see how the new freshman emerge! it is nice to hear PM has 12-13 in his line up that can be starters at any moment. pitching will be beast mode if they stay healthy! when it comes down to who actually plays will all depend on their bat and only time will tell who that will be

Toups could be a darkhorse to overtake gio in center vs righties.

Wes Toups is one of my dark horses to steal a spot in the lineup this year if his bat comes along faster than expected.

Am I the only one that is still super high on Gio?? If we can cut out some of the swing and miss we saw last year and just get the ball in play, his speed is a game changer

I want him in this lineup. His speed is something LSU needs both on the base paths and in center.

With that being said he and Toups have similar games and are both interchangeable at this point so whoever is doing better should get most of the at bats.

Also I am against an outfield that has both Gio and Toups on the bench. I still have nightmares circa 2012.

Next year. LF - Toups, CF - Gio, RF - Hampton

There wouldn't be a blade of grass uncovered, and we would steal 300 bases.

You are just too stupid to even realize what I was saying

I never denied once that the lineup would not be tinkered with. I never said or implied that anything you said in that thread was wrong. Please point out where I did, I’d love to read about it

Again, you got caught up in me being off on who played CF. Your dumbass missed the whole point lmao
