he was the ace on a team that didn't even make the tournament.

he's a good pitcher. He's just been inconsistent. Mainieri keeps putting him in during tight situations in order for him to regain his confidence. I predict he'll do well in postseason play.

McCune 2011: 4.13 ERA, 1.25 WHIP (10 games)

Gausman 2012: 4.07 ERA, 1.34 WHIP (8 games)

Gausman's the unquestioned ace of the staff, rightfully so. He'll be a top pick in the draft for sure, but McCune was solid last year in his 10 SEC starts and put up a comparable ERA to what Gaus has done this year.

Cune averaged about 6.2 innings per start last year, and Gausman is averaging 7. Gausman 2012 is better than McCune was last year, but it isn't as glaring a difference as most would think.

Wasn't Mccune a freshman all-america last year? What happened?

The bad thing about McCune is even the outs are pretty scary. Definitely a soph slump. We need Dunn to work some magic with a couple of guys.

why would you put that guy in when it's tied?

He was fairly effective vs them last year. We needed 2 innings out of the Cune to bridge the gap to the 8/9. Eades forced CPMs hand. Berry was the real mistake.

I just don't get it w/ Kevin Berry. He was one of our most effective (situational) RPs last year. We barely use the guy this year, but we bring him in in a pressure situation on the road? His 1st SEC action I can recall.

I think Yall are making a lot of nothing about our pitching! We are tied for first in the sec!We have been out hit in a bunch of games and with Rhymes getting a lot of them the other Hitters have a Avg of well below .300!Overall we just have to figure it out for the post season!Remember in the 1997 team Bama beat us 28-2 in a game but we beat them in the championship game! That 28-2 loss was a Saturday game!!!

It's not just Tigerdroppings, bro. It's been discussed on local radio, as well as brought up by former national champion pitcher Patrick Coogan.

Record is great and all, but that does nothing to support the concern for pitching. I'm tickled pink that this team has found a way to win games this year. But if LSU is going to make a run in Omaha, they had better find a groove with pitching and find it quick.

For starters, both Eades and McCune need to quit mailing it in mentally once they give up a run. Both of them seem to be paper thin mentally and do not know how to shake it off. I would be interested to know what their stats are of balls/strikes/pitch count before and after giving up the run.

Ole Miss' pitcher was the antithesis of that on Friday. Once he gave up a run, he settled down and turned our bats straight up cold. That's how Eades needs to learn how to be. And I'm gonna say McCune too, since he was a starter at one point.

Nail on the head. It was very much a dress rehearsal for postseason pitching. I think you'll see the usual suspects today.

What were the other options in the 5th inning? In order to win we needed 6 from Eades and we didn't get it. We didn't throw any front line guys out of the pen and we're in good shape to take the series today with Cotton, Bourgeois, Rumbelow, and Goody available....we just need Nola to give us 5 solid innings.

Definitely...could not understand why Rumbelow didn't come out. He pitched 1 out Friday.

Rumbelow hasn't been extended, he is a short stint guy. Rumbelow gives you two innings at best and then you probably still have to go to McCune late in the game.

defense is a problem with this team, cf and right side of the infield; timely hitting is another problem

Berry has only one pitch...his slider. My guess is that Mainieri liked the matchup with the hitters coming up. It didn't work.

Actually defense and timely hitting are two of the strengths of this team.
