Purple Jerseys when the temperature is 92 degrees

Why cant we wear white?
When it was told to be an 11:00am kickoff changes should have been made.
You already are paying those door knockers from Utah 500k to come here already.

You can’t seriously be worried about the darker jersey because of the start time.
If we struggle with execution, will you blame the jerseys?
Should we have all white practice uniforms?

The darker uniforms draw more heat from the sun. Why cant those Mormons wear dark colors?

The main reason the tradition even started with wearing white and playing at night was solely to beat the heat.
It doesn't make any sense wearing dark colors during the day, especially with field temps expected to go over 100 degrees in the second half.
However, LSU wearing the purple jersey and gold helmet/pants may be the sharpest uniform in all of CFB.

...is an act of chutzpah that's potentially a recipe for disaster.
This very thing is at the very root of the Curse of the Purple Jerseys, which took root on Oct. 2, 1965, in Gainesville, FL. The purple-shirted Tigers withered in the extreme Florida heat that afternoon, while Florida, dressed in white and drinking the newly formulated Gatorade, prevailed.

Didn't they start this tradition of wearing purple for the non-conference games because the players like them? Seems like a pretty good reason to me. The start time and the uniforms aren't factors to the outcome of the game. People have lost their minds on this site.

Get those boys some cotton uniforms, Costanza.

The Physics:
quote:
... people claim that white is the ideal way to keep cool in the summer. When we see white, we're seeing the combination of all possible visible light. This means that white clothing reflects a great deal of wavelengths of energy coming in. This means it should reflect the sun's rays back, instead of letting them cook us. And that's perfectly correct.
quote:
Except that this explanation is also incomplete. Heat is not just coming in off of the sun. It's also coming off a person's own, sweating, warm-blooded, mammalian body, which is a lot closer than the sun is. When all that body heat hits the white clothing covering it, it gets reflected right back towards the body. When we wear white, we cook ourselves.
quote:
The best color to keep cool in the heat, it turns out, is to wear black. Black absorbs everything coming in from the sun, sure. But black also absorbs energy from the body instead of reflecting it back.

Alabama wears crimson and beats the shite outta everyone. You think they think about the temp and jersey color while wringing their hands prior to playing a mid major?

I fish competitively and you wont catch me wearing anything but white on a hot sunny day. Common sense.

Well you’re... a fisherman... not a college football player

White jerseys have the effect of keeping the players cooler during the day. They are not an advantage at night. The OP was right; this is stupid to wear dark jerseys during a hot day. I have no idea why so many downvoted him. Perhaps they don’t understand the physics?

Did you just compare fishing to playing football?
I sit on the porch in navy all summer, that is almost the same as fishing.

We’re in south Louisiana. It’s fricking hot whether you have a white shirt on, black shirt on, purple shirt on, or a badass tank top on.
