Perhaps like Miami in the 80's and 90's. Schenellenber laid the groundwork with a NC, then Johnson, Erickson and Butch Davis (it was his team who Coker won with) ALL won NCs.

Agreed!

Miami screwed up with Coker (players coach/internal hire), just like Ed.

This next hire will determine LSUs success for the next 10-15 years.

You don’t need Big Name or Risky, you need solid to tweak/correct the deficiencies of Ed.

Billy N - I like, but to big of risk with what’s on the line with recovering from Ed and UT/OU coming in.

Lane K - love it, think he’s turned the corner and that offense / QBs…oof! But still high risk (I think he’s lead candidate)

Mark Stoops - Solid, would field an elite D and might be just the guy you need to get the ship pointed in right direction.

Luke F - solid, big name, checks all boxes

James F - solid, big name, checks all boxes

PJ fleck - I like the guy, solid, might not be good fit though.

Bill Ob - I don’t get why he’s being mentioned. “His two years at PSU”…ok, 8-4/7-5. Think he’s only getting consideration Bc he’s on Sabans staff. Pass.

I don't think you can say each were complete mistakes. They both won national championships. Long term they couldn't sustain that success. But the short term results were great considering the 2019 LSU team is mentioned along with the 2001 Miami team as one of the best ever. Truth be told, Coker was really good right up until LSU demolished them in the Peach Bowl. After that, the wheels fully fell off. To their credit, Miami moved quickly to replace him...it's just that they replaced him with his DC in a "one of us" hire. They haven't fully recovered since.

Recent history says LSU doesn't have to get the consensus "home run hire" (neither Saban, nor Miles, nor Orgeron were universally accepted when they were first hired. They just can't repeat their mistake and hire two guys back to back who were long time assistants that were passed over for many years...for a reason.

Double edged sword though... They also look at the expectations of yourself and the fanbase who want 5 natties. Winning 5 natties in the toughest division in football is hard to do. Nobody wants to get fired. They want to succeed long term somewhere or keep climbing the ladder.

They are probably thinking more like forget that shite Coach O just won a national championship and they are ready to fire him after a few bad losses while he rebuilds. Championship or bust is to much pressure for any coach not named Saban

Knowing that the goal of winning a natty is that much easier because it’s LSU, makes things a lot more interesting for prospective coaches

The last 3 coaches won natty’s here in case it wasn’t already known

That’s the point. Coach O just had probably the greatest season ever in college football and the fans have turned so fast. I remember how he was just the perfect fit. Just have a feeling rushing another coach in for O will truly make LSU see the grass isn’t greener on the other side

And he sandwiches that season between 2 underachieving seasons and 2 straight up fricking bad seasons.

Maybe O could recreate that magic, but it seems to require us to let him hire and fire as many coordinators as he needs to.

Trial and Error Staffing isn’t a sustainable way to coach even if he backed into getting it right 1 time

O pumpers keep trying to pitch the idea that following a NC with 2 terrible seasons and 4 failed coordinator hires isn’t something everyone would be upset at.

Over the last 3 years only THREE schools have had top 5 recruiting classes in each of those years: Alabama, Georgia...LSU. Only ONE of those teams is 6-8 in their last 14 games vs. P5 opponents. That LSU was going to have a bit of a drop off following 2019 was expected. That they were going to have their first non-winning season in twenty years followed by what is on pace to be their first losing season in over 20 years is a totally different issue. What LSU is going through right now isn't a "rebuild". It is a deconstruction.

The program is in the process of collapsing (unless you think Kentucky's first 20 point victory over an SEC opponent in nearly 25 years is just an anomaly) and you still think it is unfair to make a change? Would you prefer the program completely bottom out before doing so?

Since 2000-

And with 3 different head coaches.

LSU has 210 wins against 67 losses. That's winning at nearly 76%. Almost averaging 10 wins per season = 9.85

3 National Championships.
1 Loss in a title game
5 SEC Championships
6 SEC West Division Titles

To your point... YES.... coaches who view themselves as superior coaches should be more than interested in our job... whenever it becomes available.

Les Miles and Ed Orgeron have both won National Championships here.

Idk why that is being said. Kentucky beat two SEC teams by more than 20 last year. Kentucky is a good team. They have been patient with their coach.

3 Championships (with three different HCs)? Ok, it appears to be the PROGRAM that is the common denominator.

On the flip side, wouldn’t that just negate the new coach’s achievement if he was the 4th coach in a row win an NC? Further proof that it’s just the program? And God forbid he DIDN’T win one? What a complete and utter failure.
