Yeah, CJ vs. Gerald Glass at Ole Miss was the most awesome display of two superstars going back and forth that I've ever seen. Never really seen anything like it and I'm not exagerrating.

I agree in college. But check out Boston versus Atlanta in the NBA with Bird and Dominique going back and forth. That is hard to top. I don't recall they year.

Great point.... but Dale always seemed to do better at tourney time with a lesser talented team... well except 1981.

CJ was only 5'10''. He was a defensive liability. Steph is a defensive liability too but he's 6'3

Shaq had a higher True Shooting Percentage, which includes free throws.

It was negligibly better and I would hope so. Shaq was dunking while CJ was shooting from 25'-30'.

Full court, one on one in college, CJ would have killed Shaq. CJ was quicker, handled the ball better, and shot better. Shaq would not have been able to dribble up the court being guarded by CJ.

However, with all that being said, as a NBA GM, I would have selected Shaq in the draft before CJ.

The real question is how did that team not win a championship or even make a final four?

In a word or two... Dale Brown. The man could do more than any other coach with less talent and less than most coaches with more talent. It drove me damn near crazy!

You brought up FT%; I was pointing out TS% to show that even with FT% included Shaq was a more efficient shooter. And yes, mostly because of his proficiency at getting easy looks. Getting lots of dunks was a major part of Shaq's game; it's absurd that you try to spin getting lots of dunks into a negative.

This is the weirdest non-sequitur I've ever seen. Of course a guard would beat a center in full-court one-on-one; if that is what anyone in the world ever cared about when discussing basketball players that would be relevant. If that is what this thread has been about this whole time I would have been in agreement from the start. We both know that's not what has been being discussed here, though.

What I meant was I started watching LSU basketball in 1987. Poorly worded on my part.

What Ben Simmons could have been if he had given any effort at all.

No offense to Ben Simmons, but he wasn't 1/4 the shooter that CJ was, and could never be.

Ever heard of Oscar Robertson or Kareem? They led their teams to Wins.

Not true. Chris Jackson had a severe respiratory infection and was subpar against Georgia Tech who featured three future NBA players.

Thanks! Why do people make sh$t up when they don't know the facts or to promote an agenda? Then the made up sh$t becomes fact to the uninformed.

Huh????

I . . . ummm . . . what? Thinking a basketball player was not as good as Shaq is not at all similar to hating them.

Especially given that I was responding to people saying he was better than Shaq. Do those people hate Shaq?

Especially especially since all of my responses have focused on statistical value to the team, rather than any sort of anti-CJ personal attacks.

Not a negative, but seriously, how difficult is a dunk for a 7'1" guy, guarded by a 6'6" guy? Shaq was taller and heavier than every person that guarded him.

Hint: that was a rhetorical question. You don't have to agree. I can't force you to be correct.

This:

quote:

I know I sound crazy, but I I were putting together an LSU All-time Starting 5, I would have Ethan Martin as my Point Guard

Ethan Martin was unreal on both sides. AT point, he knew how to get the ball into the right hands, or he would do it himself. On defense, chances were if he was around you and you put the ball down to dribble, he had it in a couple seconds and was going the other way for the score.

Yeah,I was at LSU when CJ was there. Saw Jose Vargas miss slam dunks, Lyle Mouton, Nikita Wilson, Noboisha Bukomirivich, Zoran Jovanovich, Stanley Roberts, Shaquille, Vernel Singleton, Geert Hammink, Russell Grant, and a whole bunch of others that we loved. Chris was damned good. We called him "Mr. Automatic" when he was at the free throw line. I loved watching him play. But we had problems in the days of CJ, Shaq', and Stanley. We had the best players in the nation, but they refused to play well as a team.

The best team LSU put on the court was in 1981 with Durand "Rudy" Macklin, Howard Carter,Greg Cook, Ethan Martin,Leonard Mitchell, Willie Sims, Johnny Jones, John Tudor, Tyrone Black, Mark Alcorn, Joe Costello, Matt England, Brian Kistler, J. Brian Bergeron, and Andy Campbell (a 7'-4" Australian).

I would trade all the games I watched as a student with CJ playing just to watch one game against Kentucky with the 1981 team on the floor. (Except, maybe, that Loyola-Marymount game. That one was freaking incredible!)
