Maybe it is because we don't have an offense line!I fell sorry for all the Tiger QB'S.

Etling's main issue is that he can't throw on the run.

Whenever he is able to take his drop and fire the ball on time, he throws a dime.

Amy time he has to move around the pocket or escape the pocket, he sails the ball or short hops it.

Chalk should see some space with defenders because he is the deep threat so he would be the logical guy for quick passes.......then when defenders come up to guard him close do a stop and go deep

Etling isn't a bad QB, but the problems on the line really highlight his weaknesses, as it would for many QBs who are considered "good". Add to that receivers dropping or running bad routes and we have what we see at present.

A "bad" QB in this situation would have several INTs and tackles behind the LOS.

Brennan may have lost us the Troy game. I'm not sure why anyone thinks he is nearly ready to be the guy.

I upvoted, but I disagree that he's "bad". He's just mediocre to me. But, yes, he has a glaring inability to see the entire field. I don't care if DW was his fourth option on that pass he tried to force to Sullivan. He should have recognized the coverage and immediately dumped it to DW. Also, if you look at the image of that play, Sullivan was open coming out of his break and Gage was wide open as well.

We scored zero points in the first half and had a total of 61 yards passing. Danny Etling took every single snap in the first half.

That was the play Gary said it should have gone directly to Williams. I kind of disagree, even though you had lopsided coverage there was still a guy siting in that shallow sideline zone

This one was even worse.

There were at least 2 easy throws there:
Sullivan (apparently his first read) on time and DW in the flat. Gage looks open, but I don't know were he falls in his progression and you can't see in the picture if there are any defenders just off screen.

One of the worst things you can do there is throw it to Sullivan late. You're just begging for it to get picked or for your receiver to get lit TF up.

Looking at that picture, there's 2 or 3 good options to throw it to, and 1 really bad one. Etling took the 1 bad one, an off target throw in front of Sullivan and almost directly to the DB.

On at least one play Sullivan made Etling look bad. As he was already having a bad game. Playing behind 3 freshman OL may have made him jittery. Also wasn't the best 2nd half game plan I've seen. That said, as far as the rosters of both teams, I feel better as an LSU fan than I would as a Gator fan, shite the Fla Defense had 8 Sr's and Jr's in there most of the time against as young a team as I've ever seen at LSU.

He had time on the majority of his pass plays and he had open receivers. He makes bad decisions and forces throws, which makes it look as if no one is open on tv. I have been to every game and it looks different in person as I can see the whole field.

I have to disagree OceanMan. How about the fact that the offense under DE did not get a first down most of the first half against TROY resulting in zero points. That might of had a little to do with us getting beat by Troy. Then we miss a field goal and they make a field goal with no time on the clock at the end of the half. This 6 point swing just might have had something to do with the loss to TROY. Brennan starts the third quarter by driving the team down to the 5 yard line for the first time in the game until we fumbled and turned the ball over. Should have been a score then but we get the balk back a Brennan throws a TD pass to Moreau for the first points of the game. That just might have helped with a momentum swing, just maybe! Then Brennan is driving the offense again and tries to make a play on 3rd and 11 by forcing a throw realizing we are down by 10 points in the 4th quarter. DE comes and throws for 2 tds against a prevent defense who was just trying to hold on to win the game.. I think there is a lot more you can point to that lost us that game other then one play that resulted in an INT. Brennan is as ready to play as any of the 5 or 6 other true freshman QBs that play every week in this league.. they just happen to be playing because the starting QBs are hurt. Most of them are doing just fine and so would Brennan.

Wow. Pictures certainly don’t lie. Etling simply sucks at seeing the field.

Yeah, Brennan didn't lose us the game. That isn't fair to say. But two weeks in a row, he threw a pick at really bad times in the second half. In both games, the point differential swing away from LSU while he was I the game. Of course that isn't all his fault, I just can't help but extrapolate that to the entire game.

I'm not trying to compare him to Etling, all I am saying is that while he has made some plays, he is a bit of a liability and doesn't have true ownership of the offense, from what I can tell.

If you guys are truly ok with losing games, and taking it easy with the bitching, then by all means put in the freshman. I just can't stand seeing the double standard where the coach puts in the freshman when the game is in question, something this board clamors for, the end result is less than impressive and we just see bitching about every other aspect of the team.

I agree completely. I don’t think the receivers are being coached up to run crisp routes and hit their spots. I think that’s a big part of Etling not trusting the receiver to be there on breaks and spot throws. So he waits to see them open and even looks them down. Brennan’s int was due to poor route.
Agree.

Brennan will stare down receivers too, all freshmen do and the INT in the Troy game was due to that. Experience and the fixes for above cure that.

DE on the other hand, wouldn't be so bad about stare downs if WRs were doing their jobs better, thus increasing the 'chemistry'.

maybe the answer with Brennan is instead of 2-3 series with 'the game in question' is 2 series in first half, play it by ear second half.

I understand what CEO/Canada are doing with the 2nd half series, and the idea of putting him in during 'important' series (as opposed to 'critical'). But maybe there's a better way having seen his weaknesses now.

That's a strange picture whitefoot,

We have all 11 LSU players in the shot but only 7 Gators in view. Williams and Chark obviously are decoys as the aren't very engaged in the play. 5 possible targets. Williams looks like he was on a breather. Sullivan will IMO end up a very valuable Wr for the Tiger's, but not this year. Could end up making several key receptions, but he gives up on his routes right now. Makes me wonder what the progression was.

Etling has a tendency not to release the ball quickly in anticipation of a receiver's route - this could be due to a variety of factors that aren't on him but, generally, you want quicker reads and anticipation leading to quicker releases.

Etling has a tendency not to trust the pocket and appears not to trust that stepping up -or even moving laterally- can extend the passing play.

And did LSU run much play action off the jet sweep - can't remember...
