Anybody who would turn their nose up at Meyer as a college football coach has some screws loose. He has won at every college football stop he's ever been at.

I don't think there is much of a chance he ever coaches at LSU, but I wouldn't be mad if he did.

Would you define this as failure?

No, as average. The year after Napier left Arizona St, OC Rob Likens put more points on the score board than Napier did.

Likens is now a position coach at Miami. So, like I said, Napier and Likens are average at best coaches at the P5 level. LSU isn't hiring average.

Would be interesting if true.

Napier OC 2017
31.8 PPG

Likens OC 2018
29.9 PPG

And within the first few months there would already be speculation about his health. frick that, we need a longterm solution. This is a destination job, not a stepping stone.

The more I look into some of these options, the more I like Billy Napier. Some people will push back just on the principle of LSU poaching from ULL, but the guys resume is impeccable. There was one rough season while he was at Clemson, but otherwise Billy has been successful every step of the way. He's been a QB coach at several stops, he's shown ability to be the playcaller for successful offenses that are both run-centric and pass-centric, which indicates he can adapt to his personnel to find the best option for his team. He's a good recruiter that is already familiar with the state of Louisiana. This guy is at the absolute top of my wishlist.

Auburn, South Carolina and Miss st wanted the guy as their head coach. All these schools must see something.

I agree that it SHOULD be a destination job, but who has it been a destination job for? Name them.

Bottom line, if Urban would want to come to LSU then you open up the check book and bring him in. If it's 3-4-5 years, that's fine. He would almost certainly have LSU in a position to continue rolling after he leaves.

Urban is going to need and want a long vacation after his experience at Jacksonville.

Here's where I'm at on Napier. I think he's a fantastic coach, and he is doing amazing things at ULL. Does he have what it takes to coach at LSU? I really don't know. I don't want to look back in 5 years and see him building a power house somewhere else and wonder what could have been.

I'm just going to trust that Woodward will make the best decision. He isn't a usual Woodward hire, so if we did land him then I think it would be one or two things:

1 - a bigger name didn't want the job.
2 - Napier blew Woodward away so much in the interview that he couldn't pass him up, even over bigger fish.

I still maintain that the interview process will be much more important to Woodward than any given coaches resume.

They'll need to prove that they will be focused on the details. No more big picture, "We're going to recruit the best, hire the best, and everything will fall into place" coaches.

The new coach needs to be the smartest person in the room, not the loudest.

I agree. And I don't think Urban would end up at LSU. I was just responding to the fool who said, "Remove Urban from the list. Nobody wants him."

That's just dumb.

umm, your 31.8 avg also includes defense scores; interceptions, fumbles, and safeties. It's 28.5 from offensive scores alone. 2018 only had 1 defensive score, which like I previously said, Likens scored more points than Napier on offense.

I agree. The resume still makes you the pretty girl in the room though, and gets you to where you can even sit down with Woodward.

Why do only Kiffin and Fisher get credit for championships won as assistants? Others on that list have those too.
