, but any connection offering a benefit to the student athlete, including paying benefits (i.e. settlement) to others they had harmed would easily be a violation.

which rule is it breaking, though?

this doesn't directly benefit the players. the only bodies that can cure the situation are the police agency/DA

Exactly! We don't know everything involved... yet, but god damn it if Miles doesn't kick JJ off permanently, and then resign right this second, I'll lose all respect for the man.

And that would bring about the death of team sports. Crazy, biased passion.

you don't have to have unobjective passion to support team sports

9 am Mon. meeting btween 4 #LSU FB players and police postponed, in definitely, according to players attorney, Nathan Fisher

Looks like a financial settlement may prevent the criminal one.

we will never know the objective truth of this situation, and neither will miles

So Miles knows, or doesn't know?

OK I have spoken to a players girlfriend. Said player got a phone call last night saying that JJ would be picked up today and booked. He will be the one charged with second degree battery, but that charge probably wont stick. He also said JJ will sit for at least 2 games as of now, but could be out for more. I'm sure the info about him being picked up today could have changed since last night, but supposedly about 10 people have come forward, saying they saw JJ step on the guys head, and he has the road rash on his face as proof.

Sure it was. BUT If it were me or you. we would have went to jail for battery or assult on the spot.

Nope. without proof the people involved would get disturbing the peace or drunken public charge. And no, differing accounts from drunk people doesnt constitute as proof.

miles knows as much as he's ever going to know, barring some outlier coming out

the police have already interviewed the victims and made a report. i'm sure miles is privy to this information

the police have to interview the kids, but miles has already done this

It would be akin to paying a players friend likely. You are providing benefit to someone connected to the player on the player's behalf.

That said, in the past, I'd have agreed with you, but with the current actions of the NCAA (who is judge and juror), they can choose to pursue it. The bigger issue is LSU is on probation right now, and the last thing we need is another potential major violation.
