I can tell you weren't around back then because it happened occasionally. Hell, LSU beat Alabama to clinch the outright SEC title in the second-to-last regular-season game in '79, then two days later got beat at home by Moo State.

LSU lost to Georgia at home in '85 when John Williams threw an inbound pass all the way down the court with 1 second left and a 1-point lead thinking the game was over. Ball went out of bounds untouched with no time moving off the clock. Georgia then got to inbound the ball in the spot where Williams inbounded, and scored the game-winner at the buzzer on lobbed tip-in.

LSU lost at a Florida team in '90 with an interim coach (Don DeVoe) on a double-digit losing streak without its best player (Dwayne Schintzius) who quit midway through the season. That was with Chris Jackson, Shaq and Stanley Roberts.

I was there for that John Williams play. Still unbelievable. I thought we were up by one and he threw it to the other end of the court thinking that the clock would run out, not realizing that it had to be touched by someone for the clock to start.
