I went to a couple of basketball games last year and last nights. I walked away missing the “good ole days” where the fans were raucous and in the game. Student section use be loud with choreographed cheers and we never needed a DJ. Maybe the years of losing has fans not wanting to engage. Here’s hoping it gets better soon as this team is really fun to watch.

That was a generation ago and this generation has little investment in LSU hoops.

And our generation is aging and not prone to being raucous.

I think it may get back once LSU consistently starts winning again. The old deaf dome used to be a blast.

Not necessarily a generation thing. I’d say it’s more of a basketball culture thing. Tons of basketball schools have electric atmospheres night in and night out.

this is true, as ive gotten older ive calmed down. still get fired up about it but not nearly as raucous... kids and age do that to you

BTW i'm going to work Raucous into as many conversations as I can, that's an under used word

BBall hasn't really been good in years. I think Coach WW has them going in the right direction. The fans will be back when bball is back.

He’s talking specifically about the generations at LSU.

When they moved the student section to behind the goal, it killed the atmosphere IMO. Then the nerds decided to go to the basketball and no other students wanted to be around them

Its all about winning. Win and The Will Come! Dale Brown did it for 20 plus years but even for him it took a few years and a ton of promotion & sales. Since then its been hit and miss. If WW can make the tourney this and put a tourny worthy product on the court next season you will significant improvement. Repeat the following year and you should see a packed house every night!

The last time it was hype was when Ben Simmons was here. I think the fan base was done after that season. If Wade continues with the trajectory he's one it should get better for conference play at least.
Non conference games, it's just hard for this fanbase to get interested until football is over. It will take bringing in some better opponents like a North Carolina or more Power 5 teams. Maybe they can do that at some point. I would rather some home and homes than those Thanksgiving tournaments but it's like the neutral site football games, you need exposure those holiday tournaments provide.

1980 we won the first SEC championship in 25 years. The place was crazy. Will the atmosphere ever get nack to that?

Or do todays student not care as much or too busy on the phone?

It's a product of the inconsistency over the last 20+ years.

Under Brady LSU would reach great highs (SEC Champs, Final Four), but bottom out the next year (I think they finished last in the SECW the year after reaching the Final Four).

Johnson had a great first year, followed up by two years of bad basketball and general apathy.

Jones was good when you didn't think he would be and vastly underachieved when you thought the team would be good.

Wade is TBD.

There have been countless occasions over the years where momentum was building, the PMAC would sell out and resemble the 80's...only to have LSU lose that game. The most recent examples were #1 Oklahoma in 2016 and last year on a Saturday night vs. Bama.

That atmosphere is still out there. Wade just has to put together a consistent winning program to get it.

I still think promotion could improve. put the shirts out on all the seats for big games, needs more television and social media ads for tickets.
make all remaining tickets $5.00. do like the pelicans, 2 tickets, 2 hotdogs, 2 drinks $20 for week night games.
do the deal like at the girls games years ago, where you try and throw paper air planes through the sunroof to win a car. instead of having 2 sets of cheerleaders on the court, put the other set in the crowd, going up and down the aisles.
give priority points to students for all games,
free pizzas for students, half court shots for tuition at half time.
Uniform night, kids get in free when they wear their basketball uniform with the purchase of adult ticket.
These are just things I came up with off the top of my head.

Do you guys not realize that in our day we had Chris Jackson and Shaq to watch in the Deaf Dome? Those were once in a lifetime players and something any sports fan is going to cherish and try to see live as much as possible. Trust me if Shaq, CJ and big Stan were playing for the Tigers right now the place would be packed again. The crowd was great last night and if Wade gets this thing turned around the crowds will grow. You need a winning culture to attract big crowds.

A couple more good conference wins and it will take off.

Most normal folks don’t care about basketball until football is over

I am still watching the games scared to death we will give it away at the end. If I was there I probably would be sitting on my hands

People can say what they want about the nerds, but they are there supporting the team. Without them, the student section crowds would be extremely sparse. And if people are that concerned about who is around them at a sporting event, they are not that cool.

I thought the crowd was decent last night. Got loud at some points. The roof would have came off if they didn't call that shite foul on emmits blocked dunk.

If you are comparing us to schools like Duke and Kansas, that's just gonna take consistent winning.

Agree with OP. From all accounts plus from what I can hear on tv it really is very library like in there. Here’s hoping the fan culture improves and does it quickly.
