The PMAC can was loud Friday night........ for gymnastics. It can really be great, we just don't get those conditions very often. I don't think it can even compare to a top-tier Tiger Stadium crowd though. You're talking about 7x the crowd.

No, but the atmosphere is great when what I call “the football crowd” shows up to a basketball game. The PMAC gets loud and rowdy as hell.

Examples of that are Kentucky 2015, Oklahoma 2016, Tennessee 2019

False…it’s not a huge gap but it’s not neck and neck either.

Better question is….how does #1 Duke vs #2 UNC at Cameron Indoor compare to LSU vs Bama at night in Tiger Stadium. If your being unbiased that is real damn close!

PMAC was terrific back in the late 70's- early 80's when the Tigers played outstanding basketball, and had a solid lineup. Even during the Stromile Swift year it was lit, and again in 2005-06, and the first year of Trent

so you are saying it may be louder if you pile a bunch of people into your living room and scream, vs going outside and your yard and doing the same thing? Gotcha

It would take years to generate the sort of environment in the PMAC that some of us were able to witness in the 80s and early 90s.

Even if somehow the basketball team were to be great next year, the atmosphere wouldn’t be able to match those years.

Even the 2000 season, the 2006 season and a few of the Wade seasons where the team was good, the student section may have been loud, but the rest of the PMAC wasn’t full or the fans weren’t as into it.

In the late 80s/early 90s, the entire arena was crazy, the students would induce techs from players, throw tennis balls onto the court, etc… one of my favorite things as a kids was to watch the entire student section pretend to read the newspaper during the opposing team starting lineup announcement and then throw the newspapers onto court and never go quiet again throughout the game. That was peak PMAC, and I don’t know if it could ever be recreated

Close, I was at 1980 UK at Assembly Center, K Macy & Sam Bowie, crowd was crazy nobody sat down entire game. Macy hit jumper at buzzer to win SEC, For a long time that was #1 for me, but LSU vs UF & Tebow in Tiger Stadium has since taken it over, when the PA announcer announced USC had just lost to whoever, the crowd went CRRAAAZZYY!!!

it's certainly more intimate.

Tiger Stadium has become comercialized.

Clearly you’ve never seen the atmosphere. It’s not just about the noise.

I wouldn't say "better". But there was a time when the PMAC was a mad house (Deaf Dome) and students would camp out on the ramps to get into the game. The people who attend the football games are many of the same people who attend (or would attend) the basketball games. They wouldn't forget how to be loud an energetic simply because they crossed the street.

If you attended games from 78-92, you would absolutely argue that that Arena at its best is every bit as electric as Tiger Stadium. I was at USC in 79 and many other bigs games including Ole Miss this year. No band or DJ was needed (although there was a pep band), to get the crowd absolutely going nuts.

It was deafening MORE games I could count.
