Yeah, it can’t help his leverage to be saying right now he isn’t going to LSU

Jason Groome decommitted from Vanderbilt and committed to Chipola after he was drafted by the Red Sox. This was seen as a move to increase his leverage and let the Red Sox know he was okay with waiting a year if they didn't offer what he wanted.

That's not necessarily true. In 2014 the Astros failed to sign #1 overall pick Brady Aiken for medical reasons so they got the 2nd overall pick in the 2015 draft. Do you know how this story ends for the Astros?

Here's a hint: LINK

I really wanted Cabell.

Damnit.

That puts a damper on our draft day in my mind. Still really good for us, but he's a damn stud.

Yup

And keep him around the program in some capacity

No, bro. And it won’t even come up for discussion. You don’t do that to the son of another coach. Will not happen.

So you think the son of LSU's strength and conditioning coach will be asked to take a hike?

That’s exactly what’s going to happen. You think with the number of highly talented guys vying for a spot they are going to keep a guy that brings very little value to your team because his dad is the fricking strength coach lol. Don’t be dumb. College Baseball is a unique sport in that sense and I’m sure Moffit knows that

Of course it is rare these days for first rounder not to sign. But the Brewers will have to pay.

Apparently he was asking 2.5-3.0 million pre draft.

His slot is 3 million.

And apparently that's not good enough.

Mainieri might cry if the Brewers screw this up.

He told Paul that he will sign professionally before the draft and ended up dropping in the draft so he wanted to come, but Paul said to late we already have your spot away

If the brewers screw this up and he lands on campus, I might cry.

Any normal year I think you’d prob be right.

I don’t think he’ll be back on the team but could find a role as a bullpen catcher or equipment manager like they’ve done in the past

Interesting. The Brewers don't have a ton of money to play around with so they may not be able to meet his asking price if other players want over slot $ as well. We'll have our answers soon enough.

I imagine that if it was the Yankees or Astros or Red Sox, it would be enough.
