I really hope MLB institutes a mandatory slotting system so signability becomes less of an issue. It would benefit MLB as well as college.
It would be nice to know beforehand that a 6th round pick isn't going to get 1.2 mil to sign

Like what?
No clue was probably a bit strong criticism. His statements regarding ZVR and Colvin implied that they were dragging out the situtation. The pro teams are the ones trying to low ball the kids and put them under pressure to sign for the lowest number.
It's nothing new. It's just that baseball is a different sport where high school kids are eligible for the draft right out of high school.

Top 10? I disagree with that. Look at Jon zeringue from Ed white. He was picked in the third round and came to lsu.

PM didn't say "every" kid drafted in the first 10 rounds. He said "most." And he is correct.
Just because you cite one player doesn't disprove what PM said. JZ was the exception, not the rule.

If you're not in a position of power, you're not the one to set the deadline.
LSU should not set a deadline on a kid who's making the choice between MLB and college.
Essentially, that makes the decision for him.
The deadline passes. You're really going to yank the scholarship? Then what?
If I'm a bigtime recruit, and LSU tells me, "Well, time's up. See ya!" My response is... "Darn. Well, at least I will have a few million dollars to keep the wolf from the door..."

Exception to the rule.

All he is saying is that if someone is picked in the top 10 rounds he is going to move forward with finding a replacement instead of waiting for the final answer in August, which is too late for him.
This.
Any guy who's been in the dating game for any length of time knows that if you ask a beautiful woman out and she doesn't tell you "yes" immediately (i.e., tells you she'll get back to you), the answer is "no", and you should just move on to the next woman. She may not be as beautiful or charming as your first choice, but at least you're not left out in the cold.
Same thing here.

We've already signed a shitload of extra players so it probably isn't all that necessary.
+1
With the exception of maybe a pitcher or two, there shouldn't be much of a need to scramble at the end. That's just the way it goes in college baseball.

If a boy goes in the top 10 rounds, then he's probably given an indication that he's going to sign, and the statistics show us that most of the kids drafted in the top 10 rounds end up signing.
One of the dumbest statements I have ever heard.
Try to win in the SEC with players who are NOT in the top 300 .. good luck.

Some of the statements Maneri makes in that article makes me believe he has no clue how the contract negotiations can go down
You are kidding right? PM has been doing this for about 30 years. And his dad was doing it for about 20 years before that. Before coming to LSU, I played for PM's dad in junior college and we used to have our players taken in the old January draft just a few weeks before our season started. JC players were eligible for the draft twice a year EVERY year and could also be drafted in January, play the JC season and prior to the June draft could sign with the team that drafted them in January. PM's problem is that as long as LSU is an elite program he is going to attract the the best players in the country and it is difficult to convince a kid that a college education is more important than a 7-figure signing bonus......and then there is the injury factor. It is better to set a deadline that allows you to still sign very good players than to wait too long and end up with 2nd rate talent.
