If a player touching out of bounds is an extension of the sideline into the normal field of play, why can't I just step out of bounds and touch a player instead of tackling them. Are they not out of bounds at that point?

If I have a foot out of bounds as a defender as a player catches the ball and hasn't "possessed it" yet, is that not an incomplete pass because the ball is out of bounds?

Is there a limit to this rule?

If a qb were to catch a snap with a knee down and a player immediately knocked it loose the play would stop and hed be down. Our guy was down with both hands on the ball

Is the out of bounds player the the first player to touch the ball or 2nd? I joke to illustrate how dumb the rule is.

Its more than that. Our player had two hands on the ball and the Bama player that was out of bounds knocks it out of his hands. Gump refs gonna gump.

Two hands touching the ball is not possession unfortunately

It's not a well thought out rule.

I get the idea behind it. For example you don't want to allow a receiver out of bounds to be able to do a tip drill to a player inbounds. The ball should be immediately dead in that case. But in the case of a fumble it gives more power to the player who both committed the error by fumbling AND who is out of bounds.

Even with that dumbass rule it still should have been ours. Forgot who it was be he clearly had 2 hands on the ball already by the time the Bama player hit it

If two hands is not possession then catching one in the end zone with two hands and dragging your foot out of bounds isn’t a reception. Which is it.

This a bad rule. Alabama player wasn't even the first player to touch the live fumble when his foot was out. We touched it first before the scrum, which should have kept the ball live until it was recovered by either team.

You'd still have to complete the catch

I hope so, but I'm not sure how to change it. In most cases you want the ball to be dead when it is touched by a player who is out of bounds. It's only a problem when it is used as an advantage, like what we saw tonight or on a kickoff that lands near the sideline and the receiving team can force a kick out of bounds penalty.

What is the definition of possession?

In 2018, wasn’t one hand on the ball with a knee in the ground possession and the end of the play?

We had two hands on the ball and knee on the ground. We need consistency.
