Friday: Money has been really good and hasn’t really made us worry too much about any relief pitching. Hope it stays this way until we can settle out the line up.

Saturday: Floyd can definitely throw the fast ball for a strike and has shown that so far. He one great breaking pitch away from being a really good pitcher for this team. Not sure if he can lock down this spot without finding his curve or change up.

Sunday: Assuming it will be Hilliard eventually but I don’t mind seeing new faces audition. We will have to piece Sundays together a ton I believe.

Reliable pitchers:
Fontenot, proven commodity, will play well.
Rezylman, flame thrower relief, I see him taking us through the line up when our starter doesn’t have it.
Dutton, has shown he can pitch really well. Has some very good breaking pitches.
Gervase has looked pretty good so far.
Felt like we would see more guys here

Meh pitchers so far
Vietmier, throws strikes but gets hit a lot
Garret Edwards, lots of potential, need him to step up

Rough start
Cooper, we can’t keep depending on him at this point in any close game
Lansville
Shaffer

Thoughts and concerns going forward?

Everybody has been pretty good. Just gotta see where they all fit. Same concern coming in. Not sure coaches got a great read in scrimmages going against so much talent at the plate, so they may need to double back and look at guys for different roles.

Taylor throws gas and had a solid curve working for a bit

What about Collins?

I’ve been impressed with him as well

Hellmers has the 4th highest IP on the team, and you completely leave him off?

Here, let me help you:
8.1 IP / 1.08 era / 1.36 WHIP / 8 hits / 1 run / 1er / 3 bb / 9K's / .250ab

Knew I forgot a couple. Yes, Hellmers will be one of our reliable arms as well as Taylor.

Biggest question to me is which of those relievers that are looking really good has the capability to extend without losing velocity, control, and effectiveness of the breaking ball.

I'd like to see Dutton be extended a little to see how he handles it. Something about him reminds me of Marceaux.

Where is Garrett Edwards? Has he pitched any innings yet this season?

Yes. Came into the season nursing an injury. Good outings against Maine and Towson, meh against UNO. Alot of mouths to feed.

Add Hellmers and Taylor to the reliable pitchers category.

Veitmier with a 1.80 ERA, .211 batting avg against, with two of his appearances coming against the toughest teams on the schedule is "Meh" and "he gets hit a lot"? He may not be flashy, but the man is consistent and a veteran who has logged some big innings. I would definitely put him in the reliable category.

We do.

Collins has had a solid 5 innings of work. How do you leave him off? Also, Taylor isn't on your list. He had some nice pitch sequences last night

For the 13 pitchers that have thrown at least 5 innings here are WHIP and BAA. Of course, raw numbers don't tell the whole story with only a few innings pitched against different levels of competition.

Sorted by WHIP

Coleman 0.50

Dutton 0.71
Money 0.77
Collins 0.80
Gervase 0.85
Reyzelman 0.94

Taylor 1.14
Vietmeier 1.20
Floyd 1.21
Hilliard 1.25
Hellmers 1.32

Fontenot 1.67
Cooper 1.95

Sorted by BA against

Coleman .050

Dutton .105

Reyzelman .143
Gervase .156
Money .164
Floyd .167
Collins .176
Taylor .185

Hilliard .200
Vietmeier .211
Hellmers .250

Fontenot .304
Cooper .400

If you pitched our best relievers 2 innings each and then a closer, that version of Johnny Wholestaff would be our second best pitcher after Money.

Like
Taylor/Dutton/Gervaise/Reyzelman will give you a better 7-8 innings combined than Hilliard or Floyd right now.

This is always a good thing for somebody who decides to be a pitcher

Problem is you can’t be a pitcher with one pitch
