I support him making less shitty decisions on halftime songs.

They should have just let him go because the band has been so bad lately instead of creating more drama.

Why would I support him if we don't even know why he was put on administrative leave?
We know why. The school of music is trying to take funding designated for the Band and King is standing up to the department.
I want to see the Band make changes, but I'll support King just based on principle.

Let him leave. Bring in one who will say frick you Joe and F King and plays Neck
If the LSU School of Music runs Roy King off, do you really think that LSU will bring in someone that will stand up to F King and the other LSU money grabbers?

The only band that has less variety of half time shows is ATM.Since Linda left TGBFTL has greatly regressed. Bring back Linda.

I am a Tiger Band Alum and I agree. That being said I do feel like the overall quality of the program has been slipping since Linda left. She was the backbone of the organization and when she left a significant part of it left with her
Ironically...she left because the School of Music screwed her over. Like they're doing now with Roy, except they're actively trying to force him out.
To most of the others in this thread: I am disappoint.

From the petition page, it appears he has a lot of supporters in Florida. This can't help his chances of being reinstated

Once the facts come out we will know more.
If funding related, that's on him and he has to do what his superiors tell him.

Well, the scholarship money in question is to be used specifically (and only) for Tiger Band students and is provided for that purpose by the Athletic Department. The present administration of the School of Music would LOVE to use that money for other purposes and have been working to subvert the process for many years, growing more and more impatient as Roy continues to resist their efforts. So, which set of superiors is Roy supposed to follow? The athletic department, who provide the money for a specific purpose and trust him to use it for that purpose, or the School of Music, who want him to be complicit in awarding that money to students the SoM wants, whether or not that addresses the needs of Tiger Band? He is first and foremost the Director of Athletic Bands at LSU, and his job is to work for and protect the interests of his program. That's what he has been doing and, quite simply, that's why he is in trouble.

Wait just a minute. Roy may administer the band budget, but the budget is under the athletic department and thus not at the discretion of any one individual, be it Roy or anyone else. While he might be a part of the discussion, the conversation is between the School of Music and the athletic department about who should administer the budget. There is a lot to this story that's not being said and I would never accept his attorney's explanation. It's a 3-month investigation and he met with HR and the administration. This isn't about a budget or his performance as band director. Be careful signing a petition without knowing all the facts.

Yes, Roy administers the budget for the Athletic Bands as directed by the athletic department. That means he is trusted by them to spend the money as is necessary for the program and answers to them for the way he spends that money. Uh, that's what it means to administer a budget for someone.

All of you who shrug and say that King needs to be replaced should consider who would be hiring King's replacement. If you think improved half time performances - or playing Neck - would be a hiring priority you need to read the multiple threads on this site indicating the many changes being made across the campus directly impacting the culture & tradition of LSU athletics.

TGBFTL has two half time shows a year. They play it to the west side ,than the east, than north and than the south. Second show is repeated until the season is over.Someone is very lazy. They were great under L Moorhouse. Get her back!!!

Linda Moorhouse used to post on TD.

There is very little marching in this marching band. A lot more stand around and play the same ole chit.

We really need to get rid of Alexander before he puts the whole damn university down the toilet.
This is the crux of the problem. Everybody criticizing Mr. King have really weak arguments. I've been attending games for over 40 years and there's nothing wrong with the band quality. Same great band as always.
