Perspective on BK from recent ND alum

I've mentioned this before in posts but I'm a recent ND alum (may '22) but I've been a diehard LSU fan my whole life, literally where my parents met lol.

That being said I've had somewhat of a behind the peak look at the ND football program in some of its best years recently. I was in the band and we did a good number of events with the team along with having lots of football players in my classes, some of whom I became decent friends with. And there's very much an ND football culture, regardless of the coach. It's academic excellence, an orderly presentation, and an understanding of the legacy and mission of ND. Even with Freeman at the helm, the culture is more restrained than most programs and the image/reputation of players matters a lot. Which works for ND, and is something the fans (including me) endear.

But I feel like Brian Kelly has tried to bring that same culture to LSU. and sure maybe some things are good to hammer (grades, etc.) but like... LSU is not ND. I feel like the drier, more restrained, less individualistic and detail oriented culture BK has tried to instill is one that's inadvertently crushed the natural spirit of LSU a bit, neutering players energy, their swagger, idk that LSU spunk that all the LSU legends seemed to have (ie the Joe Burrow wave and smoke a cigar post-natty, idk if you find that in the BK era)

Otherwise, you don't have the energy and passion to show up for the big games. Feels like I'm watching the same mf BS I was when he was at ND. Ok cool, he upset Clemson or bama during the regular season. But how many big games has he been absolutely blown out?? Second half of FSU felt like the culmination of this, with players just lacking energy or swagger or grit. The only thing they had was the BK process and once that stopped working, there was no fight.

Tl;dr- I do think BK is a darn good coach. But he has limitations, the same ones he did at ND. And I think at a place like LSU, those are just even more prone to getting exposed esp if he keeps trying to impose ND football culture on LSU.

Edit: when I say LSU is not ND, I don't mean it negatively to LSU. in fact I mean it negatively towards ND if anything. ND culture and football culture by extension can be kinda stiff and reserved and preoccupied with image. It mostly works for ND but LSU is just a diff vibe. SEC energy, more electric feel, less held back, etc. I wouldn't want LSU to be more like ND and I don't think BK should to try to make it that way, don't know why that's triggering people?

Once I got here I realized I hate you as a person.

EDIT: The hypocritical emphasis of education but you’re going to have a grammatical range of child while typing the post as if your were speaking. If that’s the true example of ND education then the point he’s trying to make is silly. Word fricking economy, syntax, grammar, etc. maybe ND mislead your education like BK is misleading this football team.

You also seem like a racist. How dare you attribute any difference of aptitude based upon geographics, culture, or ethnic identity of which you insinuate.

“But like… I feel like you’re like not really a man…like maybe you’re more closely identified as like a woman.”

Because I think LSU is less restrained and higher energy than ND? Cuz I think LSU and ND are different vibes and cultures? If you hate me for that, there must not be a lot of love going around in your life lol

Not just you OP but a lot of posters on this board overanalyze everything too much after just one loss.

The "LSU __ of old" or "LSU swag" is gone messages are getting old. LSU records:

2022: 10-4
2021: 6-7
2020: 5-5
2019: 15-0
2018: 10-3
2017: 9-4
2016: 8-4
2015: 9-3
2014: 8-5
2013: 10-3
2012: 10-3
2011: 11-1
2010: 11-2
2009: 9-4
2008: 8-5
2007: 12-2
2006: 11-2
2005: 11-2:
2004: 9-3:
2003: 13-1

LSU is trying to become a consistent "program" right now. In the last 20 years, I count 13 mediocre-bad records that everyone here would agree would be a disappointment if LSU posted this type of season. We've had 3 seasons where we weren't in the title, but we could feel "proud" of in terms of the way the year went and how competitive we were, all of which happened 2010 or before. And we have had 4 years of incredible seasons where we competed and/or won championships.

I'm sure people will try to argue the semantics of the above breakdown, but the point is, very rarely have we experienced consistent and sustained high level success as a program, even in our "golden era," despite all of our "swag." Swag doesn't get you ****, it is a by-product of disciplined work ethic that leads to consistent results. Then maybe we can have swag again.

It's not just one loss for me. It's having watched every single Brian Kelly big game blowout in the last 6 years, whether at ND or LSU. at some point, I get kind of sick of it

All of what you said plus the fact that culture can change as with companies but it takes a lot of time, consistency and pain.

BK has only one problem at LSU now: not enough top talent across the board. Recruiting top 5 EVERY year is the best answer along with a good Portal strategy.

This. It’s the only “jury is out” gripe fans can have at the moment. It’s definitely a concern.

re: Perspective on BK from recent ND alum
Im still a BK believer but we need to stick to who we are in terms of culture. Not off the rails like the end of O’s tenure but more like late Saban-early mid Miles. We had swagger and beat the shite out of other teams. We were rarely if ever out-physicaled.

Frankly i dont give a shite if our football program “graduates champions” LSU is a fine university that graduates plenty of champions in the medical, industrial, infrastructure etc departments. I want our football players to win football games and for the best players to represent the program. Of course i want them to be high character and if they graduate, awesome! But we’re in an actual pay to play era and need to make sure we don’t overemphasize the wrong details.

re: Perspective on BK from recent ND alum
I know your edit is a troll but still confused why you took the energy to type all that vitriol lol. 1) educational reputation of the school was never my point and never mentioned the academics of either school, just that the FB programs have different cultures and it feels like BK is trying to merge them 2) sorry for not having perfect grammar on my internet post? Sorry prof, didn't realize you were counting off for that 3) where did I even mention or insinuate race or geography lol wtf

You mean when we recruited the highest level talent the program ever had consistently? We all agree.

re: Perspective on BK from recent ND alum
Do you disagree that their football cultures are different? I don't mean this in a negative way. I like NDs culture for ND but I love LSUs culture for LSU. It's what I grew up with and what I'm more used to tbh. Less restrained and more SEC kind of energy idk
