I’m good with this and I’ll add Spears and Reliford played well last night. Spears should start. He is much more active and physical than Ryan will ever be.

Penn and Perk are a disaster at LB. They have no gap discipline and can’t shed blocks. When they put the Weeks brothers in and Spears we shut the run down.

Spears made the tackle on about half the plays he was in. Physical tackles as well. Kelly probably won’t play him though because he isn’t an upperclassman.

FFS he bit on a double pass. One fkn play. He’s your best MLB and it isn’t close.

And he still almost made the play. It took a perfect throw to stop Whit.

There’s no way this looks any different in practices

It probably looks a lot different in practice because our O line is as soft as wet toilet paper

Stamps is either going to allow the catch or be guilty of pass interference. He simply gets beat has no idea where the ball is and/ or runs over the receiver for a penalty.

But we give out numbers so coaches are obligated to play him. We really need to stop that shite. And no I’m not talking about Perkins.

The #7 #18 tradition is stupid and cheesy

Very comical that Kelly is only now seeing that Whit Weeks is his best LB

I’m think Weeks issues that kept him off the field were nothing to do with football.

“He is your CB2 behind Stamos.”

Interesting. I’d love to see Uncle Jesse put on the pads. But I’d really, really love to see Aunt Becky in a cheerleader outfit on the sidelines!

Whit Weeks is the guy you want controlling the defense.

He needs to but he may not be ready yet. Last year Penn had to tell him where to line up and what to do because he didn’t know the defense. He’s not a true freshman anymore, but that doesn’t mean he’s ready to make the calls for the whole front 7.

That said, I think your previous post about swapping Penn out in favor of West Weeks isn’t a bad idea to handle that responsibility. He’s no less athletic and at least he will deliver a fricking blow. Penn is just lead-footed and never makes plays.

I don’t know if they will move Perkins to Star, but it couldn’t hurt, especially if it gets Whit on the field more.

He literally admitted in an interview before the bowl that he didn’t know the defense and had no clue what he was doing most of the time when he played. And that’s beyond his rumored suspension.

He needs to be on the field a ton this season, but don’t act like there weren’t reasons he didn’t play more last year. House’s overcomplicated scheme is a big reason why he’s gone, but it’s what we were stuck with last year.

Why doesn't he play OLB?

Because true OLBs typically only play a handful of run snaps per game in a 4 DL defense today. We have the Star Safety position, but that’s going to put him in coverage a lot more, which is exactly what people bitched about with Perkins last year. It’s probably a better fit for him, but it’s not clear he would have a big impact there, either.

We have to put him in a position that he just has to see ball, hit ball.

I'm afraid there aren't too many positions that fit the category of not having to think.

True, trying to gauge run defense deficiencies vs an anemic run offense lol.

If our DB's press cover on occasion, and we rush at least 5 or 6 to pressure the QB to have to decide quickly.....that is how your stop offenses. Laying back and watching receivers catch passes and then trying to tackle them while they have all day to run the pass patter on choice and the qb can pick and choose who is most open. It is all scheme. Challenge receivers, pressure the qb with run blitzes and maybe, just maybe create some turnovers....or we can sit back and hope we can outscore the other team.
Sick approach to football.
