I keep seeing this going around about Moffitt. The dude has his run and it ended badly at LSU. He regained new charisma after getting fired and enjoys any chance to take it to LSU any chance he gets.

"Although to be fair, what did Kelly even know about Moffitt enough to keep him on? Probably not all his fault there"

Not all his fault? WHAT!?

The OP, who's NOT a D1 Coach @ a juggernaut like LSU, was able to easily & succinctly innumerate/list, and thereby convincingly prove, how incredibly awesome, enviable Moffett's accomplishments were & are! But Head Coach Brian Kelly should be afforded a pass due to being new and simply not knowing?!

Which proves the Bigger Point & Flaw with Kelly:

Although it was absolutely his friking JOB to know who/what Moffett was, Kelly simply did not care! Like many other very important matters/issues - Kelly could not be "bothered"!

Kelly's will never overcome or outlive the Legacy he earned/deserved due to his "gross lack of accountability, care/concern" while Head Coach @ an Iconic Program like LSU!

And you know who else's "legacy" should suffer & be held accountable?

Brian Kelly's AGENT! He negotiated & "sold" a "product/svc - role/position" for an outlandishly high price! When you purchase any product/svc or hire a top-tier "professional" (Dr., Lawyer, Contractor) and then PAY Top Scale Rates/Price for their Uber Expertise, Knowledge, Experience, etc.; OR for a "1st Class Ticket, High Performance Luxury Car, Award Winning - Highly Acclaimed Architect" etc. You EXPECT (and are given a warranty) for the Level of Quality, Performance, etc! You also have Legal Recourse through "Professional Liability"!

It is the Agent's Job to absolutely Know all details regarding whatever it is he is Representing & Contracting/Negotiating for! I understand there may be no Legal Recourse involving a "Coach's Agent". But by God.....his REPUTATION, Legacy, Social Media should "Cost Him"!! Be assurred that Brian Kelly will Pay (and will forever pay) for what he did/did'nt do @ LSU. And so should his Agent!

Moffitt was stale by the end of his time here. Everyone wanted him gone. If you need to change every single thing about a program (Kelly did) then moving on from Moffitt was the right move.

Texas A&m is 8-0 because they've played an easy schedule and have better players. They are not 8-0 because Tommy Moffitt is the S&C coach. Moffitt was their S&C coach last year when they went 8-5.

You can post his wikipedia and cite former players (who always love their coaches) all you want. It doesn't change the fact that Moffitt had run his course at LSU.

Let's also address the whole "every other coach kept him around" thing.

Saban --> Miles

Things were running about as smooth as any college football program in America when Miles took over. Of course he was going to keep him.

Miles --> Orgeron

Orgeron literally started a mutiny within the staff to take the job from Miles. Ponamsky was calling personnel shots. In no world was Orgeron every going to (nor equipped to) make a change there.

The Moffitt stuff is exhausting.

Moffitts firing lit a fire under his complacent, lazy, stale, entitled arse and he should tithe some of his money to LSU to cover BK’s buyout in gratitude for waking him up.

These are the dumbest takes on here right now, everyone correctly wanted him fired.

Now to be fair to him he was following his head coach by example, because Orgeron was completely checked out after the title also.

Just because out of spite of being fired and the fact that a demanding coach like Elko won’t tolerate anything less than full effort and excellence he is part of a team having a good season doesn’t mean firing him here was a mistake.

There is plenty to criticize BK about without revising history with BS like this.

Coaches know everything about everybody. Kelly came to LSU to clean house and start over. In some cases, it backfired tremendously on him.

What are you talkin' about? "Message boards"? "Posts"? You listen to me, sweetheart. You're worried about how many times I post?

I don't post. I perform. I headline.
You're countin' beans, pal! You're playin' the library bingo room on a Tuesday night, hopin' you win a free donut! You're a local! A nobody! You're clickin' your little 'post' button... 'Look at me! I said something!'

I'm playin' the big stages. I'm playin' Vegas. I'm playin' Tahoe. I'm busy signin' contracts, not... typing!

You got quantity. You got a pile of junk. I got quality, sweetheart. I got A-material. I drop one line, it's a showstopper. You post 20,000 times, and it's...garbage.

Now beat it. You're talkin' about nothing, and you're borin' me. Go back to your bingo game. I'm busy.

I don't recall a time in four years when I've read that Kelly was on a trip for an in-house visit with a key player. (I'm sure he must have).
You must be a casual fan, because pictures were posted on TigerDroppings all the time of him with potential recruits on in-home visits.

I don't blame Kelly for replacing Moffitt. LSU had gone soft in 2020 and 2021, getting repeatedly manhandled, including by UCLA. Kelly believed that Moffitt, Corey Raymond, Blake Baker, and others were part of the soft, failed regime that he was there to correct.

Moffitt took 2 years off after being dismissed by BK. Maybe the 2 years off recharged his batteries. A&M's injury report is void of a long list each week for the 1st time in years. Attribute that to Moffitt and his staff.

Complacency is a bad thing in any industry. Including coaching.

Not looking to create an argument. Just providing a data point.

I wouldn’t say that A&M’s success this season is due to being more physical. They’ve been in shoot outs. They beat ND on prayer. The QB just threw the ball up and the TE came down with it in game that had nearly 100 points scored. They’ve also had a pretty easy path. Let’s see how they stack up against some of the better teams down the stretch.

Kelly underestimated EVERYTHING.
1. The expectations of our fanbase (Sure, we're spoiled!)
2. Winning openers.
3. Winning teams consistently in the SEC.
4. NIL era
5. Getting to the playoffs with the 12 team expansion
6. The buyout (thinking it's going to stop from being fired).
7. The buy in from players to win (He's NOT a players' or people person who thought that people would just pour their hearts to win here.)
