In baseball there is no predicting the Champion until you have one. In any sport luck plays a factor, especially key injuries that we can't foresee. In baseball more than any other sport, any team can't beat any team on a given day. The top 8 teams that make it to Omaha will all have a good chance of winning it all.

That being said, this team has as a good of chance as anybody. I believe this could the best team ever assembled at LSU. It is the perfect storm of veteran pitchers and an incredible recruiting class.

As for as pitching, we need Hill and Marceaux to stay healthy, Fontenot to get it going and Freshmen to emerge.

The hitting is being jolted by this Freshmen class. It was said the other day that this is Cain's first full recruiting class. Stud high school players commit often as Freshmen in high school. So Cain's first few classes had players already committed to LSU or stud players already committed elsewhere. So this is really Cain's first full class. I have not looked at other classes and I don't need to, this is the number one class in America.

We had some big name position players signed thanks in part to Covid, Crews, Drost and Thompson. Drost and Thompson have so far been as advertised. Crews, the highest ranked, somehow is better than his ranking. Crews fell a little in the draft because of a little hit or miss in his swing. As hard as that guy swings, it has been very minimal so far. MLB was wrong and his draft status should never had dipped, and LSU hit the lottery. Now we just need Paul to move in down in the lineup.

What actually makes this class so special are the guys that were not as highly ranked were way underrated. Morgan, Hellmers, Edwards, Safford are better than advertised, especially Morgan. That brings this class to another level.

I'm hoping some of our Sophomores and Juniors will take a step up and make us even more deadly.

Next year our pitching staff will take a big hit and I would not be surprised if we take a little step backwards. This year there is nothing stopping us if luck is on our side. Keep your fingers crossed and sit back and enjoy the moment.

I think this team will be a top 8 national seed.

This team is set up for a nice three year run
Lineup next two years is going to be strong with the current fr and soph

Pitching this year can carry this team a long way and they just need to figure out the bullpen roles

Next year's pitching will still be strong, I've been impressed with several of these fr and they will make a big leap and if you can hold on to the juco arms in next year's class that will help bolster the staff since you will lose all three weekend starters and Fontenot to the draft

This won’t be the same team when they face good pitching. I certainly don’t think it’s a perfect storm championship team.

Though Crews-Drost-Morgan will certainly buy PM some good faith.

Can’t wait until LSU plays a team with a pulse, so the fans can get a real assessment.

Where does Hilliard come in to play here? Mid relief? Fontenot has been struggling!

We have no clue about this at all! But one thing for sure we will find out!

But after the second game of the year, all the Rant "experts" said this team couldn't hit and wouldn't even host a regional.

Who should I believe?

I do think the lineup will hit some bumps in the road in sec play
The pitching will keep SEC games close though

The lineup next year will be scary and you will have to have some pitchers in the current fr class step up and I think they will along with the juco arms that can come in and help as well

500 in the sec this year will still be an impressive accomplishment with the number of ranked teams in this league

Serious question because I know you haven’t really been high on this team at all this season. What have you seen from other teams that makes you believe that they are so much better than LSU?

*you don’t have a clue about this

Even with PM’s usual cupcake scheduling you can see the warts. Going to be wildly inconsistent. They’ll win enough to keep you hopeful though.

State has looked bad for their ranking but Arky absolutely dominated some good teams already. UF has some of the best talent in the country but lost two to Miami. Vandy is Vandy.

The huge unknown here is that LSU isn’t alone in having studs on the mound and at the plate. Covid didn’t just help us. The whole SEC is loaded with MLB talent and loaded rosters. We haven’t faced near the caliber of pitching we will see. And yes, that’s true every year, but this will be on another level. Everything will be. College and particularly the SEC is going to be more talented than ever. We don’t know yet how LSU compares.

I agree.

Just also want to point out that UF lost to FAU last night.

A

STFU. You don't have a fricking clue about anything! You bring zero to the table!

If this team finishes 15-15 in the league that will be a huge failure! Yeah I wish someone would list the overall records of the opponents or all the other SEC schools.

I can't wait until LSU drops 2/3 to Miss St. or Tennessee and this place explodes

PS: I under valued this freshmen class slightly...they've completely over taken this team ala the 2007 class.

The strike out numbers are alarming for the competition LSU has faced. These same pitchers that are putting the ball on a Tee for these HRs are making easy work with a lot of the team.

The freshmen are awesome but they will hit a wall at some point. How they rebound will be important. The SEC is just so much faster than these cupcakes,

When the pitching improves, you need to be able to put together tougher ABs. And if it can’t be done against Youngstown state, it’s not going to be done when one of the 15 SEC pitchers in the top 50 of all ncaa draft prospects is on the mound.

They’ll be days when it all comes together, but I just don’t think it will be consistent enough.

I’m going to say the same thing I would say if we were struggling.

It is way too early to make any decisions on how good this team is.

Yep. I expect 17-13 Or 18-12 in conference. If we do that and host a regional and make a super ill be happy. If we make omaha ill be ecstatic.
